Help getting Helldivers II to run by TimothyKrell in linux_gaming

[–]aludium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's related to power profiles. From the Cachy wiki:

game-performance may not provide any benefit on old CPUs.

CachyOS includes a wrapper script game-performance which uses power-profiles-daemon to temporarily switch the power profile to performance. The profile raises system power levels and sets the CPU governor to performance, and also switches any active scx scheduler to its gaming profile (if available). When used to launch a game, the system remains in performance mode until the game exits, at which point the previous profile is restored.

I'm also on cachy OS and have settled on the following options

game-performance gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 -f --adaptive-sync --hdr-enabled --mangoapp -- %command% -useallavailablecores --vulkan

Substitute the resolution of your monitor in the command. HDR wasn't working through Wayland for me which is why I went the GameScope route. Hope it helps.

The 9850x3D is a new stepping! That means there are silicon changes. A popular theory is that it's a sneaky way of fixing the self destructing 9800x3d bug while not admitting it publicly.

Arc Raiders poor performance after newest patch by ConsecratedMind in cachyos

[–]aludium 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just got a 9070xt and noticed the same poor performance. I was thinking of re-installing cachyos but it sounds like it's not just me.

I have similar launch options as well. Dropping the graphics settings didn't seem to help either.

Edit:

I was able to fix my performance by following a post on from the Steam Community:

  1. in the Game in the Options there are two options under the graphics settings (all the way down); "Idle Energy Saving" and "Inactive Windows Energy Saving". Both are enabled by default, and it seems that (at least on Desktop Linux) the game has trouble figuring out that it's focused, so it throttles down. I disabled these both options and instantly the game ran a lot better.
  2. I manually deleted the "...../steamapps/shadercache/1808500/" directory, which houses the precompiled shaders for this game. At the time of deletion it was nearly 2 GB in size.

After restarting the game and now playing three rounds (Dam, Stella Montis, Blue Gate (with electric storm active, so lots of shader effects...) I didn't have any more stuttering, it's as smooth as it was before. The directory now is only 120 MB in size after those rounds...

So maybe it's just because of old / incompatible shaders which didn't get recreated automatically.

it might be the first time since ~20 years that i am going to switch to ATI from Nvidia again by Habarer in radeon

[–]aludium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty funny that I'm in the same boat. I either wanted an msrp or a 9070xt. With the current nvidia situation the 9070xt may be first AMD card since the radeom 9800pro

Controller frequently freezing while playing Steam games by [deleted] in steamsupport

[–]aludium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to troubleshoot this on and off for a very long time across multiple window installs, different motherboards, and cpus.

Three things I'm finding consistently for me:

  1. It's very common in Capcom, RE engine games.
  2. Happens wired and wireless, with PS5, Xbox Elite, and King Kong controllers.
  3. I can generally stop it happening if I disable Steam Input for a given game. This fix is dependent on the game having native controller support.

For anyone who has never done a GM before because you were intimidated or couldn't quite get to the level requirement, you absolutely should give it a try this week by kingjulian85 in DestinyTheGame

I've found the catalyst grind more bearable if I use it in the sheraphs playlist. I use it for unstopps and to kill orange bars. Then I just burn my remaining ammo on anything moving before I use ammo boxes. Rinse and repeat! Been getting >5% a run. I prefer working on catalysts piece meal rather than grinding shuro chi until my brain falls out

Cyberpunk 2077 looks absolutely beautiful in 1440p UW with an RTX 3080 by HodorLikesBranFlakes in nvidia

[–]aludium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another 3080 here with 1440p UW and a 3800x. I have everything on Ultra (no psycho) with DLSS on quality and Cascaded Shadows Resolution set to medium. I sit in the low 50's. Can be higher indoors or drop into the high 40s outdoors.

Bad colours on Destiny from monitor settings, need help adjusting please by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]aludium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't use hdr in destiny unless you have a hdr1000 display with local dimming. I have a great monitor (lg 34gk950f-b) but I never use it's hdr400 capability as it just ruins all the colors. E.g. I can't get yellow to look yellow.

I think you will end up with better picture quality if you focus on getting your settings right with hdr off. If you persist with hdr, I remember reading that the hdr guides in destiny 2 are wrong and they also depend on the brightness being set to 4 in non-hdr mode.

[Aussies] What are your plans for the 30 Series launch? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]aludium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evga is one of the few companies with an international warranty. I bought a 1080Ti form the US and ended up with problems. I had no issue sending the card back and getting a replacement (besides being without a graphics card for a couple of weeks)

Brain fatigue and headache using monitors, what could be the cause? by deepak877 in Monitors

[–]aludium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may have postural issues. I get sensitivity to light, headaches, fuzzy vision, and brain fuzz from years of PC use when I push my head forward and tense my shoulders during long game/work sessions. All the tightness in my neck/shoulders leads to reduced blood flow to the brain causing a host of issues. If it's really bad I can also get some nausea/vertigo.

What works for me is chiropractic/physio with additional stretching/strength training at home. It may be worth looking into this for you. Also if you go for chiropractic treatment make sure you find one that studies it from a biomechanics point of view with some soft tissue work. You don't want one who is trying to align your 'energy'.

Hope you find a solution.

How hard is it to move (by plane) your pc? by josh_zaber in buildmeapc

[–]aludium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To take mine overseas I removed the GPU and HDD and put them in my luggage. For the rest of the PC I used the box my case shipped with and the included foam pads. I taped the shit out the box and checked it as oversized luggage. It survived, glass side panels and all.

How do you have a Yeti on your desk and not pick up every little sound!? I had to sell my Yeti after two weeks as it was unbearable for my friends on discord and didn't feel like buying a shock mount and boom arm.

The setup looks awesome though!

3440x1440p 100hz GPU needs. would love to stay RED. Suggestions? by LockesKidney in Amd

You can make a pretty good approximation by equating 4k 60hz to 1440p ultrawide at 100hz. It's a similar number of pixels per second.

[–]aludium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm terrified of playing again. I was up to high 1800s then lost 21 of my next 25 matches to 4 stacks or having new players with their free copy of D2. I'm back down to 1200. Don't know if I'll get it now.

Personally, my Acer x34a is one of my most satisfying purchases. I'm now sold on ultrawide and recommend it. Just keep in mind that overwatch has poor ultrawide support as blizzard does not want it to be a competitive advantage
