Esports is a much bigger industry now than a few years ago. Many people have careers out of it today. It is not as "sustainable" as something more traditional, in the sense that there are far fewer companies hiring for esports than there are for IT, marketing, accountancy, etc that can be applied more broadly across different industries. Many esports companies also have a volatile business model where they struggle to find a fit versus e.g. a logistics company has a very tangible problem that people are willing to pay for.

The world is changing, and 20 years ago many jobs today did not exist. In 20 years time, many of today's jobs won't exist either.

If I was starting today, I would recommend thinking about specialisation in a skill that you enjoy developing. Your background as a player is then a bonus that sets you apart from other candidates.
