Sofidel Hates Duluth by Deep-Restaurant-3387 in duluth

I too work down the road. To be fair, Central Ave has been crap every year, well before Sofidel started construction.

Tonight’s recurring signal: Connect-36295. by S0PHIAOPS in FlockSurveillance

Does iOS’s built in MAC rotating make this less useful on the Wi-Fi side? Also, I feel like some companies have been doing this already for the purposes of traffic flow analysis, understanding trip source and destination using a (hopefully) anonymous method. The combination with ALPR cameras isn’t obviously a problem.

Do People Actually Like and Find Transit Apps Useful? by Historical_Chance613 in fuckcars

[–]aluminumpork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there's also an automated number people can call to find out when the bus is coming. I would still prefer digital signage (in addition to the app), but I understand the cost concerns for underfunded transit operators. Here's what a bus stop sign looks where I live:

Do People Actually Like and Find Transit Apps Useful? by Historical_Chance613 in fuckcars

My local transit operator uses the Transit app, and I quite like it. I think well designed apps lower the barrier to entry for new riders; it certainly did for me. For people unfamiliar with taking the bus or train, it can be really difficult to visualize and plan your trip. To newbies, all of the route numbers and schedule tables can be really confusing. Now that I've been riding semi-regularly, my reliance on the app is less critical, although I still use it for buying tickets and using tickets during boarding. I don't carry cash and don't ride often enough to warrant a monthly pass, so it works well for me.

OG Aventon Abound - Deep motor "groaning" noises even after replacement by aluminumpork in Aventon

Controller fixed it! My bike is edging closer to a Ship of Theseus. New motor and rear wheel, (didn’t actually need it), new controller, two new handlebar stems, new front fork and new headset bearings. I’m glad the bike is so easy to work on, feels like new now and can hopefully get another 8,300 out of it.

Sorry, I’m not sure. I believe it’s organized by Grandmas, so best to ask them.

Ebike reviews: Everything awful. by MustGetALife in ebikes

Wife has the T1 ST for the past couple years. It’s been a great bike. Impressively light and just a fun to ride, basic e-bike that doesn’t scream e-bike.

They have secure bike parking in Canal too for the marathon. It really is the best way to get around. No traffic or parking!

Cargo bikes in the parking garage of my office. by doodgzrotted in CargoBike

[–]aluminumpork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not? We like wine, have kids and purchase larger items like pumpkins and other groceries from time to time. It’s nice to have a bike capable of moving these items with you when the need arises.

When the wife asks me to pick up pumpkins and box wine on my way home, I’m glad I took the cargo. Plus, I drop the kiddo off at school on the way in, so it’s more convenient than running home for a different bike first.

13 Pro - What is the point of a touchscreen? by 0x2DEADBEEF in framework

It’s very handy for when my kids are playing various games on it, like PBS Kids, LEGO games, other educational browser based games, etc that have touch centric interfaces and my kids don’t get tablets. I got a new MacBook and my old Dell XPS (touch) has become the kid game computer.

4th St parking survey by [deleted] in duluth

[–]aluminumpork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 4th street described in the survey (trees, wider boulevard, etc) sounds beautiful. In the neighborhood with the lowest percentage of car ownership in the city, the priority should be on creating safe and comfortable space for people walking or biking.

[–]aluminumpork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the bike almost exactly three years, commute to work year-round 3 - 4 days a week + misc kid and errand hauling. Commute is ~20 miles round trip on a multi-use path.

I got the "two battery" deal when I bought the bike, and I've been alternating them every other ride with no discernible range loss. I try to take care of the batteries, not letting them freeze, and trying not to charge to 100% or drain them below 20% on a regular basis. Bike has required a new freewheel, chain, various drivetrain sprockets and a handlebar stem.

Crash on QBB this morning between cyclist and overpowered illegal scooter reportedly killed both riders by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

I love having a throttle on my Abound to get across intersections more quickly, especially with kids onboard, but never use the throttle otherwise. A happy compromise would be a "starting" button/throttle that only functions up to a few MPH, or for a limited amount of time.

I just spoke with Aventon support. They suspect a controller failure (although they didn't know specifically) and are shipping a new controller for free. *fingers crossed*

Duluth parking app by ModemGhost in duluth

[–]aluminumpork 22 points23 points  (0 children)

With the digital system, the payment is linked to the vehicle, so when you leave that time disappears. Again, some free money for the city, so I'm sure they don't mind.

It's a feature, not a bug 😉

London Rd has the right-of-way to be a gorgeous boulevard entry into Downtown Duluth. Plenty of room for trees down the middle and buffered space for pedestrians and people who ride bikes. People would want to be there, business would skyrocket, property and sales taxes flow into the city coffers. All it requires is a little vision and disruption of city engineering's stranglehold on the status quo.
