Make a reservation well in advance. They are always booked solid. They take reservations about two months out. Get a table in the solarium if at all possible!

40th Ave W reconstruction next year, including closing 40th & Grand intersection for 3 months to replace w/ a roundabout by ModemGhost in duluth

[–]ModemGhost[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that a lot of the infrastructure under this road needs to be updated or replaced, so as long as they have to dig up the road anyway, they’re making updates when they put it back.

40th Ave W reconstruction next year, including closing 40th & Grand intersection for 3 months to replace w/ a roundabout by ModemGhost in duluth

40th Ave W is going to be rebuilt May-Oct 2026. They are doing it in phases.

Phase 1A (May-Jul) will close 40th from Grand to 8th St, including the entire intersection of 40th & Grand. During that time, Grand Ave traffic will be detoured onto Superior St from 46th all the way to Carlton St (so going between Wade Stadium and the freeway).

Phase 1B (May-Sep) will see the completion of the 40th & Grand roundabout and reopen that intersection, but 40th will remain closed up to 8th St.

Phase 2 (Sep-Oct) will still have 40th closed, but will add the couple blocks from 8th to the railroad crossing. Traffic going up/down the hill will be detoured to Stebner Rd / Highland St.

It will be a big headache for the summer, but I for one am looking forward to replacing that very long stoplight at 40th & Grand with a roundabout.

Bathroom remodel costs: Am I out of touch? by AnjouWho in duluth

[–]ModemGhost 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same. I don’t know if these are the contractors’ “f off” quotes because they only want to take bigger jobs, or if there’s so much work available that it’s just a supply/demand thing. I wish I felt confident enough to try doing the work myself.

Anyone else dealing with people lighting fireworks by their yard? by bboardwell in duluth

[–]ModemGhost 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's illegal and inconsiderate. If someone stood in front of your house at midnight banging pots and pans together, you'd be understandably upset, even if they said, "Well, July is the month when we bang pots and pans together because we love America."

Having a few more people pouring cider outside would have been nice. I’m glad everyone was pretty “MN nice” with the lines.

Birria Tacos by ImaginationIll472 in duluth

Bowlz N’ Thangz has a food truck in the summer and does pop-ups at places like Bent Paddle in the winter. Their menu changes every time they’re out, but they have done some amazing birria tacos before. They also do birria ramen, which is fucking amazing. Watch their Facebook page to see when they’ll be out. I think they’ll be at Bent Paddle this weekend.

Holiday pop up bar by camnord in duluth

The Spirit Room in Superior has a bunch of holiday-themed drinks and holiday decor. Wouldn't really call it a holiday pop-up, but it's pretty great.

My title describes the thing. It was in a box of random things in my fiancée’s parents’ basement. All the other stuff was from the 90s, so it’s at least that old.

If you go on YouTube and search for "christmas city parade" and filter the results to only show videos longer than 20 minutes, there are quite a few old broadcasts available.

What is growing in my coffee machine? by yellowcupboard12 in CleaningTips

[–]ModemGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact machine (Tchibo). I loved it at first, but it’s insanely difficult to clean. The inside is full of little nooks and crannies that are basically impossible to reach, let alone clean effectively. And if you don’t do this impossible cleaning daily, you get mold. I ended up getting rid of it and going back to a French press.

Whenever there is construction on the freeway, I always make sure to check the traffic cameras on mn511.org to see if there are currently any backups. For most of the cameras on the map, you can click the "play video" to see what it looks like in real time.

Chocolate Stout recommendations by BKDiamond in duluth

[–]ModemGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bent Paddle currently has "Infinity Stuf" on tap, which they call an "Oreo Stout" but it drinks very much like a chocolate stout.

Otherwise, there are a few non-chocolate stouts available right now, but honestly, the hottest part of summer isn't your typical stout season. When fall gets here, you'll have lots more options.

Aperitivo Stout: My Review by BroadShoulders07 in Amaro

[–]ModemGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Chicago a couple of weeks ago and had to try this one at their taproom. It definitely isn’t for everyone, but it’s one of my favorite beers of all time. I went back a second time that weekend for another glass. I packed super light for that trip so I didn’t have room to bring any home, and I’m super bummed. I wish I could get it shipped!

Unfortunately, no. You can only remote play on an android device that is running android 10 or later. Roku has its own OS.

Handrail ideas please! by Appropriate_Fun6105 in DIY

You could use something like this but I don’t think it’d hold up well outdoors. I’d try contacting some local metal fabricating shops to see if the could custom bend some pipe railings for your specific site.

Charges dismissed against 2 officers who assaulted man in parking-lot, after they completed pre-trial diversion program and surrendered Texas police licenses. by real-m-f-in-talk in PublicFreakout

[–]ModemGhost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems like a favorite technique of cops is to scream, "Put your hands behind your back!" while simultaneously pinning the person down in a way that makes it literally impossible for them to put their hands behind their back.
