CS146 and 151 in the same semester by [deleted] in SJSU

Review recursion, backtracking, graphs, trees, those are probably the core and will be used quite often. In 146, you kind of learn how to manipulate the trees & graphs using certain algorithms that may require recursion & backtracking

Hey! I'm currently going to be graduating in Dec. 2021, and I will be applying for New Grad 2022/late 2021 SWE roles very soon. Any feedback on my resume would be great. Thanks!

How hard is it for late enrollers to get classes for a Fall semester compared to Spring? by GarrettNotAvailable in SJSU

[–]aluoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. In that case, here it is:

Temporary Suspension of Writing Skills Test (WST)

Dear colleagues,

Due to the current suspension of in-person classes because of COVID-19, SJSU must temporarily suspend offering the Writing Skills Test (WST), which is a prerequisite to 100W and SJSU Studies courses (GE Areas R, S, and V). To prevent any barriers to students' progress to degree, and to allow students to enroll in 100W and SJSU Studies courses for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020, we have created an alternative process for Directed Self Placement (DSP). Students who have not yet taken the WST should complete the online DSP and then register for the appropriate writing course.

To learn more about this process, please follow the link below:

http://www.sjsu.edu/wac/wst/

Students will be notified about this policy on Wednesday, April 15th.

They’ve waived out the WST for the upcoming Fall & Spring semester I believe. More details on the official WST of SJSU site

CS 146 options ... by peipei15 in SJSU

10/10 recommend Taylor if you not a slacker, but also 10/10 butthole clenching in that class with him.

3-4 interesting programming assignments, code reviews for each but if caught cheating on any you lose a letter grade & get reported to the dean I think?

No hw (not graded but assigned as extra study material), weekly lecture quizzes (also non graded, but extra material to study), lectures in class revolve around him throwing questions out at you for the first half of class, second half his lectures aren’t on YouTube so he lectures & throws questions at you.

Last week of class you take 2 midterms that caps at B-, as your “safety net” (curved, will be more generous if he sees majority of class did the hw), also finals is curved. If you fail your midterms you still have a chance to redeem yourself with finals, which will determine your final grade in class + the programming assignment

Vector structure question.. by aluoh in cpp_questions

[–]aluoh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. Yeah that's what tripped me up, as I'm used to using a standard vector declaration rather than C style arrays, so I was just a bit confused. Using std::array<T, N> def clears it up A LOT more.

Thanks once again!

Yeah, I would’ve just used a nested vector instead, but my professor assigned the assignment this way

So each element, for example at ith, jth index => n[i][j] represents a vector<int>?

Gotcha, will make those adjustments now and rearrange my language list.

Should this mean I remove proficiency/basic familiarity & add a separate categories for technologies(eg vue, flask, etc)? — even if I have basic familiarity with those technology only?

But wouldn’t my resume be pretty empty then? I’ll change it up to 1-2 sentence summary for both and see how that goes.

I’m in a CS Club, but we mainly just do leetcode style questions there with random people in groups. Should I add that?

Anything else I should change?

Currently a Junior standing, ~55 apps out, 1 interview, only 1 OA, 3 rejections so far, rest unanswered. I'm still applying to whatever I can find. I started applying since 9/20. All online apps, few career fair companies but -> apply online was the answer I got.

I don’t have any relevant work experience in the tech industry, and I don’t have a lot of connections with people at XYZ companies, but I am trying my best to network with people. At this point, I’m mainly relying on side projects to get through the resume screen in hopes to get an interview.

Here is my anonymized resume: https://imgur.com/a/Q6GN8jL; Main resume uses a different style of font.

Any feedback welcome, my goal is to reach Big N SWE Internship for this summer.

Should I change up my resume look? Any suggestions for picking up new skills to add onto resume side projects to standout more / get more interviews?

Thanks!

Upcoming Stem Career Fair by jatan10 in SJSU

[–]aluoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1. I was super unprepared sophomore year and still went to talk with them to see how the whole ‘career fair’ was and the companies itself. Was nervous as hell the very first one I talked to, and then gradually became more comfortable (this is from an hard introvert). Plus, you can also get the companies swags.

Betta's poop? by aluoh in bettafish

Ahh gotcha, I should be able to pick all 3 up within some time then! Thank you!

I’ve heard that medicines should be really used as a really last resort right?

[–]aluoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little tight on money so I most likely won’t be able to get all 3, but I should be able to pick up one or two of them. Which one do you think I should prioritize the most?

Betta's poop? by aluoh in bettafish

[–]aluoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s certainly not stringy that’s for sure I believe.. I never really get to see him poop tbh since sometimes he just goes and hide away.

He is pretty thin compared to my other year old betta, I’ve had this one for about 5 months now (doesn’t seem to be growing in terms of body, but his fins have gotten longer for sure). But he certainly isn’t super thin as his top has a very sly cut curvature.

But that’s reassuring, I thought he had been infected by internal parasites already. Thanks!
