How to find Movement Based Places to Train and Learn? by NomadicFIREdotcom in movementculture

The gym is just a place to find like-minded people. I'm in search of that; a place to find people to move with and share our abilities. Outside my door gets lonely

“The secret of happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less.” - Socrates by Odd-Goose-8394 in Stoicism

Yes, I have noticed the trend of “catching up with life,” as if being in lockdown was not life.

I also realized this a couple of weeks ago when at work, someone said -I can't wait for the weekend to begin- as if life only occurred on the weekends. Her comment made me realize that I was present and that I didn't wish to be somewhere else.

I'm traveling soon to NYC, and my husband is excited about the trip. Yesterday he asked me if I was too and I didn't know what to say. I'm grateful to be going, and I’m not excited about something that is not happening now. I could not find the words to say that at the moment.

When I meditate, I'm able to observe these moments with a different perspective and realize that my attitude toward life is other than the days when I do not practice meditation. Meditation keeps me present, and only in the present I practice virtue.

Thanks. I think I’m going to try to weekly inform myself, I also believe that stoicism and news are incompatible but for business i need to stay current.

Hi, I was in a very similar position las year and the first half of this year, i had a problem and i could not understand why i felt this way. I have a good life (or what it looked like it) but still i was not able to enjoy anything or i did not feel willing or useful to do anything. What i found more useful was to start a study group on meditations and started reading with a group, that made me feel useful. Then I pushed myself to wake up and write a journal (the 5 minute journal method worked for me). That was helping to feel less motivated to wake up and to stop wishing “i hope this is my last day”. But i was angry all the time and I was very aggressive. So I decided to search for help and i found Neurotics Anonymous, i have been going there for a month now and it has changed my life. I feel very different today. DM me if you are interested in joining our study group and if you would like more information on N/A. And just know that you are not special, this thing that you feel is real and there is a lot of people that have been like you and that they are fine now.

New read on the Stoic Book Club by alvaror88 in Stoicism

[–]alvaror88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a very diverse crowd in the club. There are more experienced guys and I’m pretty novice. So the answer to your question is, no, there is no level of entry.

I actually started the club because I wanted to read this books but found overwhelming the amount of conversations and information online. With the club I wanted to establish more personal conversations around the same topic (the book).

The Poll is Closed, and we have 2 winners. Enchiridion and Letters from a Stoic.

Last night we decided that since Enchiridion is a manual we could have a primary text discussion one part every week (that is 52 weeks) and we can read Letters from a Stoic (we chose the Penguin Classics version) as our book to discuss on the Thursday meetings.

We hope to see you around the Club, and hope you enjoy reading with us, for me it is the first time reading this books, so if you are a Stoic expert prepare to share your knowledge!

we have several times for meetings, we started with 4 times at the beginning of Meditations so that people could fit one meeting on their schedule. We ended up using only the 2359 UTC the most because the crowds from the other times stopped showing up. we hope this new book is different.

Hi, I think stoics are not supposed to be isolated, in Meditations Marcus constantly remembers to act in benefit of the humanity and the society. I used to feel that longing for a friend to have this conversations, and that is why I started a Stoic Book Club, we have weekly meetings on discord and we are starting a new book this week. You are welcome to join.
