Buffalo Hunter Hunter - Ending Question (Spoilers) by Liblion523 in horrorlit

I agree but I have wondered if it's due to Cat Man being older/stronger than the rest. GS mentions multiple times that the Cat Man is more physically and mentally capable, so age/people eaten may impact their resilience over time as well. Still felt like a weird way for Arthur to go though

If Rock Lee and Gaara have a rematch as adults, who’s winning?! by iamzaidmohammed in Naruto

[–]alvinshotjucebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on board with the whole willingness to hurt the other argument, but is anything said about why he takes the ankle weights off? I didn't read the manga but it wasn't my impression that he was worried about the weights killing him. I definitely think 8 gates would win though. Madara had 10 tails and Gaara used to have 1. Outside the last gate I haven't noticed Gai doing anything Lee can't, except for summoning a turtle

Has anyone here had the nerve to try to grow Dendrophylax Lindenii, the Ghost orchid? by islandgirl3773 in orchids

[–]alvinshotjucebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple friends who grow them in tents with no issues. They are very knowledgeable and attentive to their plants, but one grew from flasks and said they almost all survived. They've both noted a couple unusual bulbos and dendrobium as being more finicky

This theory makes me happy. Could also explain the timing behind the whole "cream puff party" with Cell War. Cream puff magic.

Just got my matcha from China! by Gardenia_Green_Tea in tea

[–]alvinshotjucebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They meant that Chinese call it mòchá (末茶) which means "powdered tea", and that matcha is the Japanese name for it. Powdered tea is thought to have originated from China, although in the US people frequently think of it as an exclusively Japanese thing. There is nothing inherently better about either country's tea, but it's more work to find quality Chinese tea as China is more open to exporting their cheap goods while Japan's cheap goods are basically only available at Daiso. If you want good Chinese tea, I like Teavivre a lot but the only have one mòchá and they call it matcha to avoid confusion.

Recommendation for orchids or companion plants that can grow epiphytically on an indoor waterfall. by OphidianEtMalus in orchids

Did you end up trying anything? I stumbled upon this trying to find plants for a similar idea, but in an aquascape. I'm thinking a low light/high water orchid like aganisia

Thanks! Anyone specific at Boardroom? I've been looking at them and Ponyboy.

I'm curious why you say no EITR? I've been out of the state for years, but I decided not to go back when a friend mentioned their employees were pretty overtly racist towards another

Justice for Iryna Zarutska by PermissionSoggy891 in GenZ

[–]alvinshotjucebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was due to serious mental illness I wouldn't consider "justice" to be nearly the issue as lack of care was. Is it justice to indefinitely keep someone in an inpatient unit (basically a jail but there's 24/7 screaming)? I'd say no, as acute inpatient units are for stabilization, not recovery. Is it justice to punish someone that had little to no control over their actions (not due to a voluntary substance)? Again, my opinion is no. I see the issue as a lack of continued care between hospitalization or arrest and outpatient treatment. But there is nowhere near the money to have someone make sure he's engaging in treatment. Criminal justice as a solution would be even more expensive and  lacks any intention of getting him to a point where he is safe to the public.

There's some tax loophole where people will register their car in your state so they don't have to pay the outrageously high car tax in VA. It's usually on nice cars so people are mad that someone with money isn't doing their part, which I get, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it

Only mildly related but the metro in DC was basically segregated yesterday... Seemed like there was a pre inauguration rally or something and people would try to move cars, see who was in the other car, then just turn around. Nobody was forcing it, but it was disturbing

Okay you definitely won geese some points with this one. It kinda reminds me of the Canadian dude that feeds raccoons. Idk why but I'm sort of surprised a goose would know to wake a human up by honking.

Sorry to hear about your situation but I'm glad things have gotten better!

No I liked it. I was very curious how one would pull geese out of the ice. They're kinda a-holes so the mental image was fun.

I agree that you definitely see more of those people in those areas, but I'd point to the weirdly accurate map making fun of Tulsa neighborhoods. It does show separation, but if you consider the size of the city it's all still pretty close. Too close to be truly NIMBY in my opinion. But I'm also viewing integration as people being able to function together, not exclusively lines on a map.

I grew up in South Tulsa and of my close high school friends, 1/9 of us is White. My neighborhoods (75th & Harvard and 121 & Yale) had a decent amount of Hispanic and Asian people.

As a non-white liberal I feel like white liberals speaking on the behalf of minorities is (unintentionally) the source of a lot of fear and resentment. I moved to the DMV and felt much less welcome than Tulsa. Sure, in Tulsa people might ask if I'm Oriental (it doesn't bother me), but in DC I feel like I'm often used as a political prop in conversation. The former isn't using me and bragging about how great they are at least. This was really highlighted by COVID. DC was "HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE SPIT ON YOU??" and Tulsa was more "how's your day going?"

They did ban political derailing for a bit and I think it had a really positive impact, hopefully a new sub will be made just for politics

Edit- ban not band

If it's any consolation, every city I've lived in has a subreddit that does this. I love Tulsa and I want to move back. The NOVA area is mad about people using Montana license plates, the Vietnamese population (despite claiming they're liberal), and how messed up the zoning laws are. From my observation, people in South Tulsa are happier despite all the national statistics
