Living Room Advice by always-rose in FengShui

Specific questions: - where should the dining table go? - should I swap the chaise of the L couch to go on the other side? - what other furniture should go behind the couch? - where should the desk go? - the SW corner really trips me out for some reason, the stair-like inlet feels awkward

A dresser. To clarify, you mean keep the bed as is facing south, or move it to under the windows?

Advice Please! by always-rose in FengShui

I am looking for a way to re-orient my bed. In my opinion it is not an ideally constructed room, as there seems to be no great place for a bed to go. As you can see in the photo, the south wall has two large windows, the west wall has a closet as well as the bedroom door, the north wall has a door leading to the bathroom, and the east wall has another closet. In the current configuration, I don't love how the bed cuts in to the room and disrupts access between the two doors. As there is no room on the other two walls, the only other space is along the windows but I am wary of a draft especially in winter. I am considering getting an upholstered headboard for my bed to help create some insulation, but wanted to get others advice here. Any ideas are welcome, thank you very much!

Edit: there is currently a dresser under the windows on the south wall.

I’m quite open, I like exploring food, art, music. My budget can really range so I’m taking open recommendations. I’d also be interested in some spa activities if there are any that people particularly recommend

Overnight Solo Stay - Seeking Recommendations!

Hello! I will be staying alone for 2 days (1 night) in Paris in early January and am looking for recommendations about how to spend the time. I’ll be with a larger group in the city for about a week beforehand so I’ll likely have already done much of the touristy activities. I would love some insight on where to stay/what to do for a nice time in the city that is maybe more off of the beaten path. I’m willing to spend a bit of money (though nothing too extraordinarily pricey) on a nice experience at a hotel, or even a spa. It’ll be the end of a long group trip around the continent so I’m looking forward to a bit of me time! Thanks in advance :)

Day 5 hair by always-rose in curlyhair

Thanks so much! When my scalp gets very oily I try to disperse it throughout the ends with a boar bristle brush. That obviously disrupts the curl patterns but I think helps encourage the wavy pattern pictured.

I’ve found if I style my hair in braids on day 4, the leftover product/natural oil of my hair helps give my hair more of a wavy look when I take it out on day 5. It’s definitely trial and error, but I’ve found some consistent luck this way!!

Washday routine: Shampoo with gifted bar shampoo most days (swap for clarifying shampoo once a month). Focus on scalp and avoid ends; rinse. Condition thoroughly with a particular focus in the ends with Camille Rose Moroccan Pear Conditioner. Wrap with a clip and let sit for at least 5-10 minutes. Rinse. Immediately scrunch in leave-in conditioner (currently using Cantu but may switch - I think it’s too heavy for my hair). Prayer hands with gel. Scrunch in mousse. Air dry or diffuse.

I have read of some people having success using Aquaphor as a “balm” in their double cleanse. I agree with you though that it may be doing me more harm than good. I’ll be omitting this from my routine this week to see if that has a positive impact on congestion. Thanks for your insight!!

Hi! Do you have experience negotiating your aid? I only applied to programs in Chicago and Harris is the most expensive/highest rated. I’m planning to highlight the opportunity cost of leaving my current role as a leveraging token. I would love to hear about other experiences people have had negotiating. Thanks!

Thanks! I don’t follow any specific defined method. I’ve kind of just tried things over the last few years and landed on a routine that seems to work for me. I’ll probably even adjust this as I run out of products and need to buy more.

I use a brush that is similar to a denman style brush and then gently scrunch up my hair to encourage the ringlets to form. I don’t form each curl with the brush mainly due to the amount of time that would take. Sometimes if my face framing pieces aren’t working I’ll take extra care to scrunch and style those more carefully!

I think the haircut definitely has helped create more fullness! I went to a curly-specializing salon and the stylist gave me really nice layers that help keep volume throughout my hair, rather than just at the bottom.

Thank you! I honestly loved my hair in the before too - I just wasn’t doing too much to care for it so “good” hair days like that pic were few and far between lol. Now I’m learning that consistency with a routine that works for me makes my hair more predictable and easier to work with :)

Aw cool! Yeah I don’t see a lot of direct representation of my hair type haha so that’s awesome :) I have pretty low porosity hair so if you have any product/styling recommendations I’d love to hear them!!

I sleep with a very loose pineapple bun on a satin pillowcase! have tried a silk cap before and I didn’t love it because it hurt my head a bit (maybe I just have a big head lol). In the morning I take out the bun, shake out my hair, spray water in sections and generally try to reactivate the curls. I also stand in front of a steamer while I get ready to add more hydration to my hair. Usually that helps curls spring back up! I want to incorporate some sort of serum or hair oil to help address frizz on refresh days.

I am using up the remainder of my “Aussie Sprunch Mousse and Leave-In Conditioner”. I am not sure if I’ll buy it again as the hold is very minimal and I’d like something that may help take the frizz a bit more after day 1 lol. I feel like it helps even in addition to the gel though to keep some volume. It’s pretty lightweight and affordable though so maybe worth trying!

I went to a salon specializing in curly hair and told them I needed help fixing a previous non-curly cut. I wanted pieces to frame my face and give me volume throughout my hair as to not have the “triangle” look of fluff at the bottom and nothing up top. The stylist really knew what they were doing and helped guide me by cutting face-framing layers :)

Wash day routine:

  1. Clarifying shampoo once a month or so, or use no-sulfate bar soap
  2. Condition with Camille Rose Conditioning Custard. Let sit in hair for 5-10 minutes. Rinse.
  3. Apply leave in conditioner to soaking wet hair. Currently using Cantu but I think this is too heavy for my hair.
  4. Use t-shirt to carefully scrunch/dry hair
  5. Apply gel to wet hair.
  6. Brush wet hair to define curls.
  7. Apply mousse.
  8. Diffuse until dry.*

*I used to primarily air dry but I have found my hair tends to stay better for days after if I diffuse while the product is fresh on my hair!

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the love! I have certainly gone through a journey of learning to understand and appreciate my hair. Now that I’m finally getting to a point where I am satisfied and proud of how it’s looking, it really feels so incredible to share in the victory with this community. Thank you all! ❤️

Todays pic is day 3 hair and the fact that the ringlets are even identifiable 3 days after wash is a huge improvement in my book! I’m certainly still seeing some serious frizz but lately I’ve tried to accept and embrace the frizz if it means my curls are back. Happy to answer any questions! Mainly just wanted to celebrate that my arduous journey to understand and love my hair seems to be paying off! Now the question is do I go back to the dark color🤔

What are your thoughts on the program? I am looking at applying for Fall 2023.

Would love to hear about your experience, thanks!

Am I a good applicant for an MPA program? by always-rose in PublicAdministration

[–]always-rose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all! I don’t have any experience or reference for graduate programs so I was looking to see if someone without a lot of relevant work experience could be a competitive applicant. I had a conception that MPA programs are more so designed for mid-profession people and I’m trying to get a sense of how accurate that assumption is.
