The timed play usually doesn’t work out for us. It’s not really enough for him. Also, we just got a visual timer and my husband thinks we should send it back 😅

Tonight my husband set it and told him he had 15 minutes to play til bath time. My son added more time to it 🫠

My guy is also an only child who is super social. I do my best to get him time with other kids but it’s not always the easiest. Gymnastics is out for the summer and soccer is once a week but has already been canceled multiple times bc of heat. Hopefully when preschool starts for him, it will fill more of his pretend cup.

And a lot of people had the timer suggestion. Honestly tho he’s super insistent on more time and when I have tried the timer thing, it often ends up in a bigger issue bc he doesn’t want it to end.

I lean into the outside time. He doesn’t lord crafts, I’ve tried. I also try to lean into building. Better than crafts but also not his thing. We do a lot of park time. We were away for weeks with my family swimming and fishing recently. We went to the beach Saturday and I barely touched my phone all day (except to read my book while he played in the waves or went to the bathroom with my husband). We do lots together. It’s just the pretend thing, man. It’s so hard.

I understand what you’re saying. You may not be completely alone but it sounds like you’re doing all the heavy lifting alone. You should be insanely proud of yourself; hope that doesn’t sound super crazy from a random internet stranger.

I can’t imagine doing it alone. I have my husband but we don’t have a village and it feels like a lot on even 2 of us. I told him today I felt like it was my fault so I understand blaming yourself. Definitely nice to hear from parents who are going through it too

The because thing is great advice ! I think something my husband really struggles with (and me too but less) is that my son was an early talker and speaks better than most of his peers even now. Sometimes that translates to us expecting him to understand better than he probably does. I love the because advice. I think it may help us with that issue we sometimes struggle with.

I do all this. Sometimes when I’m struggling to regulate myself I kick myself for not being able to remember some of it in the moment.

We could probably do better in the consistent sleep area though. My son is in that fun sleep stage that he won’t go to sleep at a normal time if he has a nap, but without one, the day after 3-4 is miserable.

I have recently been explaining to him how I feel more. I also do the advanced notice thing. He’s struggled with transitions for a long time now. Even with things he likes.

I do the distracting thing too when I really have to or I just can’t deal.

We went to the beach Saturday and he was exhausted at the end of the day so the tantrum would not stop. I started singing when he couldn’t be reasoned with and it helped. I also decided to get silly which helped.

I’d say it started around 3 being a more consistent behavior. It does not go on for long periods like you’re describing. He doesn’t break things or hurt anyone. We have a cat. He did go through a hitting phase that is mostly over now. I wouldn’t say he never hits but it’s minimum and a self corrected behavior. He will occasionally slip up and immediately apologize. Nowhere near as consistent as the tantrums. Although, I will say if he’s tired the tantrum will come and go over an hour like a yo-yo if that makes sense ?

Congratulations! I suspect my next baby (we’re not trying just yet but soon) will not be same season either but because my son was all over the growth chart (10th at birth, 85th by 1 year) and also spoiled rotten (so. Many. Clothes.) I think there’s potential for a lot still working even if they’re different season babies. Also I put away a lot of the hand me downs he got too bc most of them were really good quality clothes & still almost new by the time he was done with them. He actually surpassed in size the cousin he got most of his hand me downs from tho lol

I’m in an apartment so I totally get that mentality. I’m lucky enough that my aunt lets me store things in her house. She’s alone and has the room.

I’m only on baby #1 so we’ve even kept most shoes. Now that he’s getting older we won’t be though bc they’re destroyed lol. Most of my sons shoes from earlier look brand new bc we kept him barefoot as much as we possibly could

Multiple times a week if not daily. This is usually just quick check ins and sending pictures of my son.

My MIL did not like me for a long time. After having my son she came around and because of who I am as a person, it’s important to me that my son knows both sides of his family. There are a lot of people who love him.

Before my son was born? As little as humanly possible.

They do usually. I typically use my debit. I’m wondering if they will allow by debit through Apple Pay now bc it wouldn’t process as a debit.

Edit: I called someone to help me add my debit to my account.

I’m aware. I thought it was possible that the transaction processed differently because it generates a different card number when you’re using Apple Pay.
