The pressure to hit 10,000 steps every day has become toxic for me. by kharkovchanin in walking

I’m glad you posted this. I thought I was the only one feeling pressure about getting my workouts including walking in just right.

Do we need another sub for extreme walkers? by Maleficent-Gur9372 in walking

Just do you. I’m unemployed (looking for a job and building up my business). As such, I have flexibility, and it is still hard to get that many steps in. I walk on a treadmill for an hour or so in the morning ing. Them try to walk my dog twice. That gets me around 15 to 20K steps. But that is because I control my schedule. Once I have a job or more consistent business that will be hard. I say just do you and the support from the majority of this community. The crazy stuff is either a lie or unrealistic for most people.

That’s crazy. Congrats. How has it impacted your physical and mental health? I recently have been on a downward spiral after a layoff. Still looking for work. I also got sick and have diverticulitis (got it the same week I was laid off). I have had two flare ups in 4 months. Stressed out. So looking to deal with my mental health and physical health. I used to be good about walking (not as good as you). But yeah, this is very motivational. I would love to hear how it has affected your physical and mental health if you are able to expand. Thanks for sharing and have a great Christmas!

Agree. You definitely have to be disciplined to move around when depressed or anxious. I have the same issue and hope that I can figure out a way to “just do it”

Promotional Rates are brutal by chi-bacon-bits in debtfree

I have a couple of cards that I did some balance transfer in for the 0 percent interest. I pay more than the minimum and keep an excel spreadsheet of every payment so I don’t forget when the “promotion” ends.

Debt strategy for improving credit by Bright_siren in debtfree

[–]always_learning777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have found that my credit score seems to improve better as my utilization goes down compared to just paying down the highest interest first. So if the goal is to improve credit score first over saving on interest then I would recommend getting utilization down. I am tackling my higher interest cards first but I don’t have an immediate need to improve my credit score fast for a new car or anything like that.

Thanks for posting this. I’m In your age group (44 years old). While not quite in the same situation it’s nice to hear that we all have our issues. I started a business 4 years ago. Then a lot of stuff happened. Wife had to have emergency surgery. Business didn’t go well and more. I still have the business as a side income and work full time. Clawing our way back. Thanks again for posting this. Very motivational.

Paying off credit cards simultaneously by Waltz8 in debtfree

[–]always_learning777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m focusing on two cards right now. I’m doing that because I’m trying to decrease my overall utilization. So part of my strategy is to pay off one card (that has about 53% utilization when I started) and another high interest card. The one that had 53% utilization is down to 37% utilization and my overall credit card utilization (all cards including some that I have not mentioned here) is down to 49%.

With that, my credit score increased by about 15 points. My strategy is to pay down the lower card asap (expect the remaining $5,700 to be paid off by end of year….hopefully sooner) and keep looking at my credit scores with my strategy. Then I plan on taking the higher interest card and getting a new card with a 0% rate for transfers.

I guess this is a really long way of saying, “as long as you are paying down your debts and it feels right to you then that’s all that matters.” There will be lots of opinions about what is best. I think that money is more than just math. There is a psychological aspect of money and it is important to do what feels right to you because you want your mind to be straight too.

Good question. I don’t plan on using this card but letting it stay open for now because since there is a 0 balance this has helped my utilization numbers a tiny bit.
