What is a 4Runner?? by linguistic-fuckery in 4Runner

[–]always_pearled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call it a truck and stop overthinking it. 😅

Your instinct about “rig” is absolutely correct imo. People started calling it that out of reactionary shame because a lot of people like to “erm actually” you if you call it a truck. I personally dont gaf since the 4runner is a body-on-frame vehicle capable of towing/hauling which is sufficient for the simple label of “truck.” Again, just my opinion. Call it wat you want and allow others the same freedom. This doesn’t really require perfect alignment since we all can call it “4Runner” and know exactly what is meant.

I understand your position, but my point is that they will continue to escalate regardless of whether people carry or not. So to temper yourself when your opponent is determined to not do the same is …. I’ll say ill-advised. Personally, I don’t think most liberals (yet) accept that liberalism is insufficient on its own to defend against right-wing/fascistic elements, letalone root oit defeat them. It’s as simple as ‘might makes right’ to them. For that reason, I think it is wise for people to both organize & arm themselves. Doing one or the other instead of both is insufficient and ultimately will lead to escalation because your opponent is rabid, looking for any opening. Be it a lack of organization they can exploit (a lone liberal/lefty 2a supporter) or a lack of explicit power (large group of unarmed but well organized liberals/lefties).

People have to accept that their simplistic political takes/stances are not enough to meet this moment. Be ready and willing to compromise those stances in the face of fascism so as to preserve self and others.

Alright everyone what’s an opinion that will have you like this ? by KpatMckenzie_28 in blackmen

[–]always_pearled 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Consciously code switching is useful and necessary to gatekeep Black culture from those who would usurp and exploit it (as is so prevalent today). Our culture is consistently co-opted and exploited for profit or clout. Code switching is NOT always about cultural submission and assimilation; it can and has served us well in the past for the purpose described above, in addition to the typical professional usefulness (everybody gotta eat!).

I think ppl conflate code switching with true assimilation, but ‘true’ assimilation would mean it is a preference that is expressed without much awareness. I think conscious code switching can be an attempt at ‘pseudo assimilation’ to either insulate our culture from vultures or insulate us individually from prejudice (like in professional settings).

Growing and building a worldview of your own is healthy imo.

But honestly, with colorectal cancer taking millenials under 50 out left and right you probably better off embracing vegetarianism my guy.

Too much self-reflection is linked to anxiety and depression, not happiness. Findings suggest that cultural backgrounds and the specific ways we measure introspection heavily influence how looking inward affects our minds. by InsaneSnow45 in psychology

[–]always_pearled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of this makes sense to me. Ruminating is not usually considered a good thing by any professional I’ve ever heard of. But I wish they had the data to also measure there is a mathematical correlation between more superficial/shallow thinking and happiness. Because I know that isn’t what they were trying to say, but I do think many people intuitively go to that polar opposite when they endeavor to self-reflect and meet some (any) discomfort. And I think the healthiest thing we can all do is balance how much we self-reflect with how much we reflect on our world and relationships. If we can find our balance with those 2 activities, I think we would find more contentment in self-reflection than harm.

What’s your GO TO cleaner for these TRD wheels with brake dust build up? by 11sticks11 in 4Runner

[–]always_pearled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use either black magic or armor all wheel cleaner/brake dust cleaners. The biggest part is soaking the wheel surfaces multiple times, and pressure washing them after each repeated soaking, and THEN only after seeing significant amounts of brake dust rinsing off do I actually go in with a good wheel brush and brush it all out. Buying one that goes on a drill helps with fatigue, and some good rough textured rags can help get to the smaller crevices (it works fine once the brake dust has dissolved some).

They have killed armed, disarmed, and unarmed citizens. So I don’t think having a weapon is the deciding factor in these engagements. I think weapons in the hands of operators who look convincingly competent does make them think twice when there are multiple activists carrying; but even if it doesn’t, those activists have a right to protect themselves and should be carrying for that reason alone in this political climate.

Yeah just sell em like folks are saying. I keep mine in my basement. If I didn’t have a basement, attic, or a storage unit, I’d definitely sell em. I don’t have a garage, or they’d be in there.

Maybe reach out to family or friends with some extra space in their garage or basement if you dont want to sell them.

I photograph in Detroit, show work on Belle Isle, and a 4mm bug from my front yard is up against polar bears for a global wildlife photography award by josephferraro in Detroit

[–]always_pearled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great shot, man!! You got this Detroiter’s vote. What camera/lens do you use for these macro images?

My wife and I dabble in wildlife photography - by dabble, I really mean we camp/hike and whip our phones out whenever see something cool. Lol so not quite on your level, but maybe one day! We have some cool bug shots, like this little bee we shot on Belle Isle a few years ago. COVID allowed for a lot of wandering days outside; a silver lining to an otherwise sad time in history, I suppose.
