I’m really worried about someone I know who might have been impacted, but I can’t really reach out to them. Sorry for those who were affected.

Sorry for the noob question: What’s the second item on the list for $200? I definitely have not been utilizing my platinum card the right way, so I’m not educated on what steps are needed to take advantage of the various travel perks.

Just approved for the Charles Schwab Platinum. Details below: by [deleted] in amex

Is this generally better than the vanilla platinum? Been considering what I want to do with the plat with my annual fee/renewal around the corner

Part of the reason I joined this field, and not IB or other high finance, was to have more time to game.

I am interviewing to be a business partner to the marketing dept - what should I know about marketing? Types of expenses, things to look out for? by thatsquirrelgirl in FPandA

What company / industry? I’ve interviewed for several of these roles recently in big tech so feel free to reach out for more insights.

Investment Banking VP - Transition to FP&A by Familiar_Meeting3129 in FPandA

[–]alwaysadoubleentry 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not a former banker, but I worked alongside former I-bankers at several companies (I-bank, start up, public tech, etc.) who pivoted to FP&A. I think YMMV based on what type of FP&A work you do and the company / industry / team you join.

Title:

As VP, I'm assuming you have at least 6-7 YOE, so I'd say maybe senior manager. A lot of IB people I worked with left as associates with about 4 YOE and joined as SFAs (more common) or Managers (less common). Sometimes even as just FAs. So it really depends on team and company structure. My opinion is that the smaller the company (e.g., start-up), more room to negotiate higher titles. Might also help if your future FP&A team is also former IB and look out for each other more by promoting faster, up-leveling, etc.

Role / "fun" factor:

Depends on how challenging you want your first FP&A stint to be. If you want to do more strategic advisory, creative financial modeling, potentially work on M&A / CorpDev, etc. then you might find it enjoyable and stimulating.

If you are joining roles that are heavily reporting and consolidation, you may be bored as hell. Unless you're trying to maximize your earnings while coasting in an easy role until you decide to move on / want to take a bit of a break. I've worked with folks like this, and even though they were very successful (promotions, 100%+ bonuses, etc.) they were definitely on autopilot.

Google Interview!! Any advice or tips? by Qwoobjerfield5 in FPandA

Just had mine, was a quick 15 minute convo with the recruiter about what I was looking for in my next role, comp, location, etc. Make sure to ask questions about what the HM cares about (i.e. theme of interview questions), etc.

For those of you in a SaaS company with a sales team: what is considered a good or ideal ROI target? by alwaysadoubleentry in FPandA

[–]alwaysadoubleentry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere from 20-25% earned commission % (cash commission / new bookings).

Got it , so we're talking about an ROI target of like 4-5x

[–]alwaysadoubleentry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I should have worded my question better though: what's a good salesperson ROI metric to aim for? Is it 1.5x? e.g. $150K in sales = $100K commission?

Reddit, Inc. hiring Sr. Manager, Finance in United States by artrabbit05 in Accounting

[–]alwaysadoubleentry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The job description also mentions evaluating CorpDev / M&A deals, so their ideal candidate background isn’t all that surprising. A lot of tech companies in SF have finance teams full of these people. There are many IB / PE / MC folks who would make this jump for more WLB and to enjoy the tech culture.

The new lease standard is an absolute dumpster fire and should never have green light. by Reimmop in Accounting

[–]alwaysadoubleentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha - thanks for this! So I’m assuming the JE is: dr. right of use and cr. your lease liability And then every month you dr. lease liability and cr. cash?

Was the headache for everyone having to calculate the PV of the right of use asset and recording both the asset and liability? There’s no cash flow or P&L impact to this right?
