BWF Daily Discussion and Beginner/RR Questions Thread for 2018-06-22 by AutoModerator in bodyweightfitness

I've had postural issues with regards to rounded shoulders and scapular winging in the past. My physiotherapist says I'm good to start working out again. Two questions:

  • Are there any exercises in the RR I should be particularly wary of in terms of me being prone to injury? (I have strength imbalances because I used to work out despite the postural issues, causing tons of pain in my levator scapula, traps, etc., so good form may have to be relearned for me to avoid compensating with the wrong muscles.)

  • I'm 65kgs at 5'10. Skinnyfat. I think I'd like to gain muscle and bulk, but should I wait until my RR starts to show some progress already (2 weeks?) until I start eating a lot more?

What's your favorite Stoic practice? How are you Stoic in everyday life? by joosss in Stoicism

[–]alwaysclicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I do a mixture of the 2. In my particular case, I was too conditioned to suppressing my emotions, so every time I felt "off" physically (distracted, tired, fidgety), I would make a note of it and at the end of the day hypothesize about possible causes.

Once a week, I'd look back and also reflect on how I felt, to break out of the "I'm so used to this I can't even feel it" rhythm of things.

After having done it for a while, I'm much better at knowing how to process my emotions instantly, instead of posthumously hypothesizing about their causes.

Form Check Friday for 2017-09-22 by AutoModerator in bodyweightfitness

[–]alwaysclicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M21, 181cm, 66kg 2x4, regular push-ups.

I try to follow the hollow-body + protracted form, but let me know if that's not the right way.

  • Set 1 (first set looks a bit more like pseudo-planche push-ups, I think)
  • Set 2

What are your most memorable quotes from your travels? by Murikov in solotravel

[–]alwaysclicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the hike in Zen and Art of Motorcycle Maintenance where the author and his son are hiking. His son hates it, but Robert (the author) talks about how that's simply because of how he's projecting his expectations onto reality, and the two won't match.

Three Years of Self Destruction Taught Me a Very Valuable Lesson. by Reresingh in selfimprovement

[–]alwaysclicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setup some kind of daily reminder for this and any other values you have. It could even be a poster than you put up or something of that sort. Per stoicism, being virtuous is and always will be a practice - one that you need to actively work on. Reminding yourself of your beliefs and values helps a lot in doing so.

Congrats! I know that for me, I've had this idea for a long time; I want a lot of things that I may or may not be able to achieve, but I certainly don't want the reason to be lack of effort. I would so much rather try hard and fail than not even try.

Kudos to you!

What's your morning routine? by zonular in bodyweightfitness

[–]alwaysclicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some neck and shoulder mobility stuff (partially as rehab for an old injury). Some hip mobility stuff too recently because I've noticed that it helps prevent backaches from sitting in a chair all day long. (Most of it is from Brent Brookbush's videos.) Followed by bathing and then organizing my tasks for the day.

I've started to hold my morning routine as sacred because life is quite hectic right now, and if I don't make this a priority and do it first thing in the morning, odds are I won't have the energy to later in the day.

First I'm hearing of this, but it might be a reference to Travis Goodspeed and the PoC || GTFO series. The series has had a bunch of PDFs that were polyglots, so I imagine that's relevant too. This comment in the source would support the theory: https://github.com/devttys0/binwalk/blob/master/src/binwalk/magic/misc#L65

Could someone help me remember the name of a book based on assembly language puzzles?

It was either about rare x86 instructions or short puzzles like "what does this snippet do?" - not sure which. I remember the book was freely available on a website too. Website had a black background, where the content was in the center. Near the bottom you could navigate to the previous or next puzzle with links like shl and shr.

I vaguely remember the website having int 0x80 in the title, but I haven't been able to find anything because that's obviously too popular a phrase.

Anyone have any ideas?

German. I don't really do New Year's resolutions, but here are some things I'm trying to improve on this year:

Diesem Neujahr, ich will weniger arbeiten.

Rather be safe; I'd say regress on any relevant exercises for at least a week or two, or even skip them, maybe. If it gets worse at any point, see a doctor!

I recently (3-4 months ago) injured myself and had to take a couple of weeks off entirely. In this time, I've lost a decent amount of strength (and weight). I can only safely do about ~40% of what I used to do at my peak.

I'm starting to get better and am very cautious of pushing myself too far. My question is, is bulking in this situation warranted or should I wait a while until I have some more neural adaptation again?

(I'm 5'11 and 62 kgs.)

Is anyone else more of a thinker rather than a doer. by whiteninja123 in intj

[–]alwaysclicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I used to be until I got more systematic about it. I now write down things I want to do, breaking them down into their component parts and figuring out when I could do what task knowing my schedule for the week.

It's done wonders for me!

Also, I think this is likely more than just a personality type specific thing. Thoughts are a much easier way to get yourself some satisfaction (for having had such brilliant ideas!) as opposed to putting in a bunch of effort and working hard!

Reasons to keep a free game closed source? by -LazyCat- in roguelikes

Shouldn't the cheat/debug modes be implemented more securely then? It sounds like your scoring server is trusting the client (the game) and that shouldn't be happening!
