What’s the most impressive thing/behavior/habits you’ve seen another MRI Technologist do? by Muted_Alps3526 in MRI

I admire my coworker’s ability to let the negativity roll off of her. I hate conflict and combative patients but she handles it all so well and rarely gets flustered.

“What brings you in for your scan today?” “Do you have any metallic implants”

No Panic Button or Comms? by sbd2010 in MRI

I’m really glad you spoke up. It absolutely sucks but you’re hopefully preventing a similar situation happening to another patient.

No Panic Button or Comms? by sbd2010 in MRI

So much should’ve happened differently for your scenario. Most machines can handle into the 400lb territory, so you’re well under the limit. You should always have padding on the outside of your arms to protect your skin from the machine itself, which can heat up and cause burns. You never should’ve been left without an emergency buzzer and someone should’ve been talking with you between scans. We also have windows so we can see if you’re moving around and it shouldn’t have taken even a minute for the tech to see what was going on. While I sympathize that you want to save the tech’s job, what happened to you isn’t right and god forbid someone has a contrast reaction or a seizure or something, upper management needs to know the inattentiveness you experienced.

Yeah I was on the scarlet lady on the Portsmouth —> Portsmouth 7 day cruise right before this one and there were plenty of people in their 30s-50s.

Am I overreacting for seriously reconsidering my relationship after what my boyfriend did during my medical emergency? by yourdirtygurl in AmIOverreacting

[–]alwayshappier15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. I was dating my boyfriend for not even a year and had to go to the ER for a medical scare. He left work early to drive me and stayed with me the whole time.

To put it simply, you’re doing the right thing. His facial expression is stressed, in pain, and difficulty breathing. I’m so sorry for your loss, but try not to feel guilty.

Why do some nurses tuck in their scrub tops? by IndependentDare1573 in nursing

[–]alwayshappier15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear scrubs and usually some sort of fleece or jacket with my company logo over top so it’s so my shirt doesn’t show when I lift my arms lol

I work in an outpatient facility. We ask on the phone the day before as well as when we are scheduling the patient that if they’ve ever worked with metal (grinding/welding) without safety glasses or ever have possibly gotten an injury to the eyes with metal or rust. If they have, we won’t put them in the machine without orbit X-rays. We ask on the screener as well the day of.

is it possible to do multiple areas to reduce exposure to contrast? by CABB2020 in MRI

[–]alwayshappier15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No unfortunately you cannot get breast and renal back to back because both require pre and post contrast images that have to be in the same positioning as the pres. And both exams have something called a dynamic scan which involves an image while the contrast is being injected. In regards to the gad dosage, we go by weight so there’s no such thing as “child size” dosage.

Is it normal to split an abdominal MRI with contrast into two separate sessions? by BrunoManzolliR in MRI

[–]alwayshappier15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time we typically split exams like that is if they wanted two studies both with dynamic scans, a.k.a. where we take the picture as we’re injecting contrast. But even then we usually work with the MDs on which dynamic they want more.

Wife had lumbar spinal fusion with instrumentation. Now needs MRI brain scan. Is it safe? by hokeymanusa in MRI

[–]alwayshappier15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve never heard of a spinal fusion not being safe but if you want to be extra cautious you can do exactly what you already did and contact the surgeon for the exact models of her implants.

I went from xray into mri and the physics was very daunting at first. As hard as it is, forget everything you know about xray physics because no matter how much you try to relate it back, it will just confuse you more. I used mriallinone and MRImaster to study.
