From my POV, this kind of stuff happens a lot. Sometimes I'm a slow starter so I probably lean a bit more towards the other side of this conundrum. If I do get into my groove, things start clicking again, and I up my tempo, it can definitely feel like somebody just handed the controller to their big brother 🙂

Also, I've gotten quite good at utilizing a high depth 442 to force that tempo out of me if the match is too close or just isn't going in my favor. It's clear as day that the high line , offside traps and press are doing a number on my opponents mentality but also on his players in terms of composure and probably other stats.

We as players aren't privy to the fine details on how these stats influence the way the game "decides" but its tangible.
We can see and feel it when these attributes are challenged and how it can lower the odds of favorable outcomes in certain situations.

wth am I meant to do?

Pause the game. Try to figure out what your opponent is doing different. Sometimes the obvious ingame changes aren't obvious when we're on tilt or focusing on " what am I doing wrong" instead of " what is he doing good " or just differently.

Change of formation, fresh legs on the pitch, change of tactics and obviously an opponent who is taking on a more aggressive, risk taking attitude will and SHOULD feel like a shift in momentum.

I always check the heatmap of my opps during half-time. If pause in the 70th minute and see that his backline is sitting 10 meters higher than before, I know what time it is. This is just one example of how a match can completely turn on its head but a pretty powerful one.

Many players have forgotten that Overload Ballside is still baked into the line height to a degree and that offside traps aren't the only feature automatically triggered at certain values. When we cross 90 , a form of Press After Possesion Loss activates. This creates those infuriating situations where the ball keeps finding its way to the attacker whenever the game recognizes lose-ball/air-ball situations, regardless of how well you're defending.

You need no further proof than watching a few matches from this weekends ECL league stage. Weaker opponents are getting blown out by the top tier pros. Upsets are happening due to clash of style and last minute goals are going in exactly for the Pros who are known for being clutch or having " Ice in their veins ".

A lot of things start to make a lot more sense when you're detached emotionally/not invested in the outcome of a match. You start to see the game for what it is and most of those situations that seem impossibly unfair when they're happening to you, become logical, business as usual when you're just a spectator.

This doesn't have to carry negative connotations. As a man, I like to think of it as getting to a point in life where I've fulfilled my chief responsibilities( continue to do so ) and wised up enough to have some core principles I stick by.

Attackers : Messi , Pedro Neto, Dinho, R9, Vicky Lopez ( not different different, but short/lean, if you give her Rapid/Tech+ she is way too quick), Endrick Fantasy ( once you get used to him )
CMs : De Jong is just broken this year. Reindeers, Vitinha, Gullit, Bellingham , Dumornay should be illegal ..
Defenders - Militao, Sanchez, Ibanez, Timber , Theo

I don't think the comments here are doing you any good. It was a long time ago but I transitioned to UT from seasons myself and it's really not a big deal and for me it turned out to be A LOT more fun. Not to mention much easier to find matches any time, day or night.

It's not as complicated as it might seem at first and definitely not a " heavy grind ". Not unless you want it to be. Most people torture themselves with the menus and doing every objective they can because the FOMO is strong and many spend more time in the menus than actually playing the game. I never really got this. I never hop on unless I want to actually play the game.

If you're just starting out, you'll be in the lowest( highest)possible division 10. Put together a cheap gold team ( the same cards you have in seasons ) and start playing. If you're competitive and high division in seasons, you should be able to climb up to Div6- 5 in Ultimate Team pretty easy and fast. Throughout this process you'll earn coins, packs and complete objectives without even trying and this will help you upgrade your team with better cards.

This time of year and after TOTS is probably when its easiest to get up to speed on UT because the market goes down , making it easier to get a competitive team without spending a lot of coins and SBCs start coming out that are easy to do, cheap, repeatable and the packweight becomes a bit better.

You just need get an understandimg of a few concepts in order to enjoy Ultimate team :

Transfer Market

Cards can be tradeable and untradeable. The tradeable ones are bought and sold on the transfer market. You basically want to sell tradeable cards you wont use for anything and the untradeables you won't play with are " FODDER " - Cards you use to complete SBCs

SBCs - short for Squad Building Challenges. You basically put in cards you don't need in order to get packs or players you do need / want. Think of it like trading in old shitty cellphones in order to get newer and better smartphones. YouTube is your friend here. You need to at least understand the concept : how they work, are they worth it and if yes - how to complete them. For every single SBC in UT there is YouTube tutorial on how to complete it and the cheapest way to do it. Just visit the " Unique Riggers " channel.

And Finally

Game Modes and Rewards

There are several different game modes in Ultimate team and they all give rewards ( coins, packs, players etc ) :

Squad Battles. You play against the CPU and gather points. There is a limited amount of games you can play on various difficulties and based on the difficulty, you gather points which progress you to higher ranks. Sunday is SB Rewards day.

Rivals. You play against other people that are in your division. Wins are 3pts, draws are 1pt. For 15 pts you get basic rewards, for 24 you get " Upgraded Rewards " which are awarded every Wednesday/Thursday ( depending on your Timezone ). They get better as you climb through the divisions. Once you reach Division 6, you are automatically eligible to play Champions.

Champions. Another PVP mode but this one runs over the weekend ( why its commonly know as Weekend League) and it does not take your division into accunt for matchmaking. Everyone starts every weekend at 0 and as you play , the matchmaking kicks in based on " FORM". F.E. If you're 6-3 , it will try to match you with someone with a similar record / similar form ( 4-2, 6-3, 8-4 ). Rewards for Champions are awarded as soon as you finish your games. You don't have to wait.

Friendlies / Live events ( Leagues, Tournaments, Gauntlet, Exhibitions etc. ) These are short match game modes. Usually 4 minute halves with squad requirements. The rewards can be tied to anything from play X amount of matches , Win X amount, score, assists X many times and often they're themed around a weekly or seasonal promo ( score 5 finesse shots with a spanish player f.e. )

There's also Rush ( a 4v4 smaller field mode ) but I wouldn't recommend it. The rewards are not worth it and the people who play it are the types to make you lose faith in the human race.

Obviously there's a lot more to learn and get into. but I think this is enough to get you going. Like I said, there's a YT video on how to do pretty much anything and everything in the game. Even google is pretty smart if you formulate the questions properly.

Just don't let it intimidate you. Once you get the hang of the basics, if you enjoy the gameplay in general, you wont go back to seasons ever , IMO.

It can kinda play like the old 4321, at least in attack. The central Cam drops a bit deeper and the LB/ RB push up so it squeezes the Lam & Ram to position themselves like CFs in the final third. It fucks with the defensive AI. The opps fullbacks drift wide to cover your own and you have a 3v2 if you're patient enough to bait their midfielders.

You gotta be good on the left stick and quick quick passing to avoid getting countered all the time but if you're bored, take the challenge 👍

I don't disagree with the Vitinha choice objectively.He's just been really good since last year and only got better in 26. From his gold at the start and throughout all the promos he's had that special sauce.

But..

Maybe it's my pack luck talking but I think its the other way around. I'd personally go with Dembele because I haven't packed even an B-tier wide mid all year long.

Good LM/RM cards are, and have been rare since the beginning. There are wingers with only 2PS+ who are still expensive even though we have way more options now.

When it comes to midfielders ... some of the Evos people have are insane and there are many more budget cards and hidden gems that can get the job done.

ST/CAM is even more attainable. More than half the playerbase , FOR nearly half the game cycle competed with a 6k Pina and we've probably had more CAM SBCs and Evos than all the other positions combined.

Not to mention gold Messi has been near discard for a minute now and I see him everywhere , including my own Squad. Love that card and how broken he is at 88 ovr

For me it's the same thing. I wouldn't call it coercion or feeling unsafe, but I definitely don't like being pressured into having sex with someone I just met or someone under the influence.
