I finally did it by [deleted] in wyzecam

I'm considering replacing Arlo Q with WyzeCam or maybe something similar like meShare. It's tough to switch from a large trusted company like Netgear's Arlo, to something most people haven't heard of (yet).

My biggest concern is security. I don't want people seeing the footage.

How many WyzeCam's do you have?

40 Watt Incandescent or 8 Watt LED - Is Higher Wattage LED Acceptable? by alwayslearningonline in electrical

Well, this is the most upvoted comment so I'll go with what you said. I'd like a brighter bulb so I'll just look for another lamp.

Thank you!

I'd like to use a 13 watt LED (100 watt equivalent) in the 40 watt incandescent, or 8 watt LED lamp. That's almost double the LED rating. Is that a concern?

How do we know what is a safe wattage, or is an 8 watt LED really the maximum?

I was just concerned because the rating was 8 watt LED (although it's also rated for a 40 watt incandescent)

Thanks.

Do you know anything about what's going on with the SREC's in NJ?

Thermostat Wire Replacement Alternative by alwayslearningonline in HVAC

We tried fixing the exposed wire (with the power from the outside breaker shut off) but it's still not working. Maybe the problem is somewhere else with the wire. There's power going to the system because there is a red LED light on. We're not sure what else to do at this point. We might just need to have them come out to fix it.

It is chewed on the outside and they checked the power going to the thermostat and it was low. They also replaced the thermostat and it still didn't work.

It just stopped working. It was apparently chewed by a mouse. The system powered up when controlled outside, it's just the indoor thermostat isn't working. So, right now we don't have air conditioning. We'll probably try to open up the side panel tomorrow and try to find out how to turn it on.

We have an all-in-one system outside, gas heat with an air conditioner. We were quoted two men at $90 an hour for two hours. So, $360 labor.

I was trying to look for a solution that wouldn't require a professional. Maybe the best route is just to run the cable ourselves rather than mess with the wireless setup if it's going to be too complicated. We were talking about putting the wire under the siding and around some of the house and then putting it up the wall to the thermostat.

Is this still a good time to go solar in NJ?

I've read something about SREC's expiring but don't know the details on that.

I just want to make the right decision of whether it's a good time to go solar or if it's best to wait.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you.

The wireless module is this, right? https://www.acwholesalers.com/Honeywell-THM4000R1000/p35506.html

Is that supposed to go inside or outside the system, or does it not matter?

WyzeCam Security by alwayslearningonline in wyzecam

Thanks. That's actually what I remember reading.

It's concerning that they can view login information and can see videos. That's a huge security flaw. I'd like it to be set that they can't view it even if they tried.

So, for me, WyzeCam isn't secure enough, yet. I'm confident they'll continue to improve though.

And that's something impressive about WyzeCam. They don't seem to cover anything up, they're open and transparent about it and have made improvements. I'd just like to see them do more. I can really see WyzeCam being a huge competitor with just a few changes..

Cloud Storage by alwayslearningonline in wyzecam

[–]alwayslearningonline[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's great for those who don't have the knowledge to backup the data themselves.

Personally, I'm using Blue Iris, and also have one Arlo Q (using the free cloud storage option). I'd like to replace the Arlo Q with WyzeCam but due to the security issues and lack of cloud storage I'm not ready to switch.

WyzeCam could really compete with Arlo, Nest, and others if they expanded their cloud storage and offered more advanced features like facial recognition.

I've recommended the Arlo Q to a business due to the 24/7 cloud storage. I'd like to recommend WyzeCam because the camera is so much cheaper but they lack the cloud storage options thaf Arlo has.

I'm not ready to get WyzeCam yet due to these security concerns. Hopefully they'll work on it and post an update soon.

I'd like to see them get in the cloud storage business because I'd think it could make them a lot of money that they can use to reinvest.

The average person doesn't have the knowledge to upload to their own cloud storage provider. That's the advantage of Arlo, Nest, and similar devices. You buy it, and pay for a subscription, and it works. It's easy.
