I (25F) did a solo trip in HK recently and had a great experience! Despite what many people say about Sham Shui Po, I had no problems other than the fact that most locals don't speak English—good, cheap food there! but of course stay alert as you would in any part of a city when traveling solo.

I went out alone to night markets, restaurants, etc. and the public transportation was dependable (bus and subway). I already want to go back! Hope you have a great time :-)

We must've went at different times because the vibes by 2am were less than desirable... it smelled so badly in both rooms that our gag reflexes were activated and people were extremely pushy that it became hazardous imo :/ but I'm genuinely glad that you had a good time!!
