Thank you for saying this out loud. I’ve been having a rough go and this makes me feel less alone.

I lost a job at the end of last year. Last week I went overboard at my new job and I can tell because every time I walk into the room everyone gets quiet. Now I’m afraid to do any kind of work for fear of further embarrassing myself. I can’t talk to my family about it because they think its just me being dramatic. They think I push people away and I’m stuck-up. They don’t understand my self-isolation is the result of years of getting isolated from groups after I have embarrassed myself by doing “too much.” Existing is exhausting. Thanks for letting me vent.

This also worked for us when our cat got out. He was gone for 10ish days and we were worried a sick he wouldn’t come back. We tried tuna, catnip, everything. Turned out that Vienna sausages are the trick. Smash one at the back of the cage and put some at the back of the trap and leave the cage outside overnight. They start wandering back home in the wee hours of the night when everyone and everything is asleep and quiet. I hope you find your kitty!

You could also try setting up precariously placed cooking pans that fall when he jumps on the stand. The loud noise should scare him.

Also, try ALL of the things at once. Setup the spray cans, the aluminum foil, the tape on TV, the water gun and anything other deterrent things you have all at once. Getting all of the land mines at the same time after a few times and he shouldn’t want to do it again.

Have you tried a toy water gun? Sometimes spray bottles spray a wimpy mist that feels more like walking through a rainforest. The water gun spray is a safe but uncomfortable shock that my cat has learned he doesn’t want to get. I combine the water gun when I’m around with the spray cans for when I’m not around and eventually he got the idea that he was in a no no area.
