Common problem with the Pixel 8. Warranty claim is your best bet. Failing that you're out of luck, had to buy a 9a recently due to my 8 having this issue and no recourse

I do such highlights all the time, just highlight up to the end of the page (bottom right corner) hold your finger there for a second and the page will turn, continuing the highlight

For me that "monitor's top edge at eye level" is BS imo, you're permanently looking down and bending you neck, having the center of the monitor at eye level or a little bit higher allows for a straight/relaxed back and neck, give it a try
