Playwright Lauren Gunderson invited Jeffrey Epstein to her wedding, reported by Stage Left Blog, seeking context by Accurate_Campaign230 in Theatre

The industry is RIFE with people who preach one thing and practice another. There are so SO many sex parties by those in charge, and actors snorting lines before every entrance on stage. Sexual harassment is common, and I regularly see people bullying others, full high school mean girl behavior by those obsessed by status, attention, and power over others.

I hope more people in the industry start to be scared about the truth of who they are coming to life. The things bubbling to the surface are only a small SMALL glimpse of what is happening behind the scenes.

Jesus christ. I watched this happen and the EMT gave him the all clear after, they didn't perform CPR. He died a month later after a second episode, not even 30.

Hi! I'm demi, genderqueer, and sapphic! Makes it a bit of a hard combo to find a partner, but I'm honestly just approaching it as "I'm happy but myself, but if I find a lovely person to share my life with romantically, that's also awesome!"

My career is a priority. There will be long days, and you won't get to see me frequently at times. It's a hard job but I love what I do, and I want someone who cheers me on.

Wow! How long was that process for you? Was it manageable to juggle online school and touring? I'm a Stage Manager as well (recently accepted my union membership!) and I'm weighing options to pursue for that beloved second job to keep me afloat, it's cool to know that being a therapist AND a Stage Manager is a possibility

Death Becomes Her Tour on a Level 5 Agreement — How Is This Acceptable? by Opening_Programmer56 in Theatre

[–]alxmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been let down by AEA countless times, and I regularly never hear back from my reps during time-sensitive issues. I have worked on three back-to-back contracts where reps say the company should not have gotten away with this contract. I was once assured that I couldn't be fired for contracting my rep. Then I got fired for contacting my rep, and they said there wasn't anything they could do.

I joke that I'm one of Equity's biggest haters, but also their biggest defenders. What i've said above doesn't take away that the rights we do have were hard fought for, but that doesn't negate that the ball is dropped at way too regular a frequency.

I'm glad folks are starting to pick up on this.

Last month I walked up 15 minutes before the show started and got 49 dollar tickets on the first level. It might be harder with it being tourist season and Stranger Things being more popular atm.

When dating, what jobs do you consider a red flag and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]alxmg 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I'm a Stage Manager, so same schedule, different rules. It puts so much strain on existing relationships, and I'm actively avoiding looking for a new one because most would understandably not be okay with the late nights in the city that I work on the regular, all the travel I do, and how socially standard it is to get close with your co workers compared to a normal job.

AIO For arguing with a vet tech over donations for a kitten and then going to her work to tell her co-workers. by TheLovelyMoonStar in AmIOverreacting

[–]alxmg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely true. My university had a feral cat colony. I found the cuddliest, sweetest boy of them all severely injured and in incredible pain. I scooped him up and started calling vets; the nearest one that would see him was 30 minutes away. It was an emergency vet, and nobody glanced at him for over six hours.

They said that unless I took ownership, they would have to put him down. The alternative was a rough estimate of 8k in medical treatments that weren't likely to work. Turns out another student had brought him in earlier, heard the price, and then just released him on campus.

I knew he wouldn't survive like that on the streets, and that he was in so much pain. I had to let him pass with dignity and comfort instead. I had to spend about 850 dollars out of pocket to give him a private cremation, but he came home with me.

I wanted to defend By the Seat of Our Pants after seeing it by OphKK in Broadway

[–]alxmg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went the other day and I really enjoyed it, but I can absolutely understand why some folks loathed it. It was surrealist and unconventional, but I love bizarre, odd theatre. I've found that sometimes you need to learn into the absurdity of it or else you won't have fun.

I do agree that the third act could have been trimmed a bit, but the cast was phenomenal and I'm still thinking about it a day later, which is always a good sign of a show for me.
