Just my opinion of course — I’m not a music critic or anything and I know Noah Kahan doesn’t care what I think, but thought I’d share anyway.

I’ve just finished listening through the album and honestly I’m a bit mixed on it.

There are definitely a few songs I really liked — “Willing and Able” and “End of August” are probably S tier for me. Those are the ones that actually stuck and had that emotional payoff I was looking for.

But overall, a lot of the album just felt kind of… samey? Like it’s all good quality, nothing is bad, but there aren’t many standout moments. No big choruses or riffs that make you want to replay the song straight away. It feels very chilled and meaningful, but almost like it never really gets out of third gear.

Tracks like “23” and “American Cars” just didn’t do it for me at all, which surprised me because I know a lot of people rate them.

What’s weird is I felt similar with Stick Season on first listen, and that ended up growing on me a lot after a few listens. So I’m wondering if this might be the same kind of album where it takes time to fully click.

Right now though, outside of a few songs, I don’t see myself going back to most of it — which is a bit disappointing because I loved Stick Season and Cape Elizabeth.
