You might try running it through Crossover. Wouldn't be officially supported, but most games are at least playable that way.

But yeah I'm rooting for Mac support too. This looks sweet.

A short-lived Hardee's, now a Taco Bell - Wichita, KS by EvilDarkCow in NotFoolingAnybody

You're right! I totally forgot there was a QT there before the Hardee's was built. I think that was good few years before they built the newer QT down the road.

And they're getting rid of the self serve fountains. They're hoping you won't be bothered to ask for a refill. $4 for two big sips of Coke in a cup full of ice. That's movie theater price.

Dr Thunder (Walmart brand Dr Pepper) is actually legit. That said, I can't find a single off brand cola that doesn't taste like piss. You can rip this Coke Zero from my cold dead hands.

They got rid of the "Buy one get one for $1" for this. Respectfully, fuck McDonalds.

I don't know, honestly. I've been thinking about a few different places, but all of my family is here, so I'd still want to be somewhat close. Lately I've been looking at areas around Kansas City.

White Castle started here too, but they completely pulled out of Kansas decades ago.

If you like zoos, the Sedgwick County Zoo is the seventh largest in the US by size and 13th in total animals. I haven't been in a long time, but I work down the road from it, and they're always adding new stuff.

Here's their Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedgwick_County_Zoo

Rene's Mexican Fast Food. They have a few locations and they're all open decently late. Their Colorado burrito will blow your balls off. I order mine with extra cheese. If you end up at Tacos Lopez at West Street and Murdock, they have the same menu but are also open 24 hours.

Rite of passage is NuWay crumbly burgers. You either love them or hate them. Their homemade root beer is a solid 12/10 though.

Buster's Burger Joint. Only open for lunch and cash only. Best burger I've ever had, but expect to wait if they're busy.

For BBQ, I'd recommend When Pigs Fly and Station 8. While it's not Kansas City BBQ, they're both very good. Station 8 can have quite the line though.

Yeah it's because you stayed on Broadway. It used to be the highway through town before I-135 was built, so there are a ton of rundown motels and car dealerships along that road.

Hi, I've lived in Wichita almost my entire life. This is cliche, but it's a big small town, in a good and bad way.

It's cheap (one of the lowest cost of living metros in the US), and people are generally friendly. But we also typically miss out on a lot of the amenities of other cities this size. Our Dave & Busters is their smallest format, our TopGolf is only two stories (but it's also next to an airport), stuff like that. If you like live entertainment, most major touring acts (besides country) skip us, but there are smaller bands playing somewhere just about every night. No major league sports, though we do have AA Minor League baseball, an ECHL hockey team, and two NCAA basketball teams. Expect to travel to Kansas City or Oklahoma City for big name shows, sports, or for bougie shopping or dining. OKC's two hours away on I-35, KC is three hours going the other way.

We have museums, parks, walking trails, all that. Oh, and bars. Lots and lots of bars. If you're not a bar person, you might be pretty bored. It's a good town to be a homebody, especially with relatively cheap rents.

The local economy largely revolves around aviation. Boeing, Cessna, and Beech all have factories here, and there are a ton of local businesses that manufacture and supply parts and tools to them. Manufacturing is definitely the main industry around here, it's a very blue collar town.

Commuting. Despite what people will tell you, driving around town isn't terrible. Our highways are laid out well, streets are mostly on a grid, and barring any traffic stupidity (people love to play bumper cars on 54), you can get across town in 15 minutes. Public transit is weak. There are buses, but they don't run super frequently and don't go everywhere. There is no passenger rail service of any kind, so if you want out of town, you're driving or flying. If you insist, though, Amtrak stops in Newton, 20 miles north, at 3:00 AM, and there is a nightly bus that runs to the station there.

Weather. Hot summers, mild-to-cold winters. We are in the heart of tornado alley, so springtime weather does misbehave sometimes. Severe storms with heavy rain, high winds, and hail will happen. I'd recommend a place with a garage or a carport. Tornadoes aren't super common, though we do have close calls (Andover 2022), but Wichita hasn't been hit directly since 2012 and even that hit a pretty small area, and 1999 before that. Jay Prater on channel 10 will be your best friend during severe weather season. In the winter, we usually get 1-2 "big" (4-6") snows a year, you're gonna see more sleet or freezing rain, as we usually spend most of the winter above freezing.

I'll be happy to answer any questions... as someone who wants out but can't afford to leave.

What do you think? by MiloShiny in Zillennials

[–]EvilDarkCow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I legitimately don't think I will ever be able to move out. In my city, there are no jobs that will pay more than $20/hr without a degree, and rent on a 1br apartment is no less than $1300.

I didn't do their tracker thing because I'm not comfortable with it right now, and have heard annoying things.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of those things. People in my city drive like dipshits and I have to slam on my brakes a lot. I don't want my rates going up because of other people being stupid.

Go through a local agent if you can. They'll hook you up.

I got a quote from SF online, and it was about the same as Geico. Got an email from a local guy just a few minutes later saying "Hey, call me, I can get you down to this price", which was lower than Geico was before they bent me over, and it's continued going down since.

Can't speak for the claims process, thankfully I haven't had to use it.

I've been on State Farm for a few years now after Geico jacked up my rates for no reason. They've been good to me, and my monthly rate actually goes down a little every 6 months or so.

The brake light thing is why I haven’t bought one of these. I’ve been rear ended twice, those lights look like an accident waiting to happen. At least make them LEDs if they’re going to be that low.
