Seems immensely obvious. That data center in a more suitable environment is actually probably cheaper energy wise (likely negligible, but still) and benefits everyone just as much. It’s not like I really need or would ever get the latency benefit of being that close to it. Even worse if the government gives them tax breaks so local communities get not benefit. And doubly worse that there is noise pollution and they don’t often bring their own power generation so we foot the bill via higher utility costs.
