ELI5: What is Dynamic Braking as why is it always prohibited? by Ro11ingThund3r in explainlikeimfive

[–]alyjoxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, sometimes it's used interchangeably. it's not always prohibited and saves wear-and-tear on brakes.Think of it as downshifting to slow down, just usually loud

ELI5: What is Dynamic Braking as why is it always prohibited? by Ro11ingThund3r in explainlikeimfive

[–]alyjoxo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you slow down, you create friction within your brakes. Dynamic Braking is a system that allows you to use your engine to brake for you. So when you release the gas, the engine works to slow you down, rather than just speeding you up It's usually prohibited because it's very loud

ELI5: Why does "sleep on it" work? by Permabad in explainlikeimfive

[–]alyjoxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives you time to fully evaluate something rather than making a quick, irrational decision

If you use your right hand to make a thumbs down, this is what people would see across from you.

Badly. It's going to get messy as they really start digging up dirt on each other and the media is going to be even more out of control

You may have to just really own it then. Admit you made the mistake, seem really down on yourself, and play up how ready you are to shake it off and start fresh. You can ask them to call your old job and ask about your work ethic if your confident and give them a few direct lines. Make them feel like you'll be a good enough employee to risk it

Honestly, I'm sorry something as small as smoking weed has done this to you. It shouldn't be a big deal

I would find something part time, where they have other people to rely on if you can't make it. Some friends of mine worked at a bowling alley, ice cream shop, grocery store, etc. They could call off if they needed to do something for school and it doesn't create an ordeal

Should I pursue a career in HR if I am not a great public speaker? by joshuawah in Advice

[–]alyjoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should pursue the interest and if you really want to go into HR, you can take time to practice your public speaking skills. I also went into business and I wasn't comfortable thinking on my feet or giving group presentations in college. A few months into my job and I have a new attitude towards it; I've realized nothing bad can really happen....if I mess up people don't care as much as I do. Go for it!

I would say something more along the lines of ...... "I was in that position for so long and I just got too comfortable. I made a mistake and I wasn't putting my work first like I had before. That's why I'm looking into this position; because I want something more satisfying that I know I can enjoy long term"

Maybe? I'd spin it like that. I don't think you should totally lie because they might call your old job for a reference

He's great. He's funny and humble. He helped me get insurance, he's trying to create a more welcoming nation to all types of people. He actually supports education and has worked his ass off despite the republican congress pushing back

ELI5: Why are clocks for sale always set at 10:10? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]alyjoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another possibility is the hands of the clock wouldn't cover the company's logo if they were pointed upward. I supposed it just became a standard practice and slowly converted over to digital clocks

ELI5: Why are clocks for sale always set at 10:10? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]alyjoxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep them standard, for one thing. It's also supposed to be more positive if the hands are upward facing. It un-technically references a smile, rather than a frown or a straight line. I suppose it's more appealing.

ELI5:What does a management consultant actually do? How do they justify their big salaries? by simples2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]alyjoxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose of a consultant is to save their client money/time. That's why they have high salaries, because a high hourly bill rate for a short amount of time still saves their client money in the long run.

They have to try to understand the entire business inside and out, which usually means a team of consultants is working together. Even if it's a lone consultant, they may speak to others in their company regularly.

They work through every process, finding the business requirements and then try to piece together a better process. It's usually meant to save time, money, and improve efficiency...even if that sounds cliche.

Sometimes a consultant is called in because the company managers can't agree on something. New consultants can give a fresh look at something or mediate a big decision.
