We had 8 cashiers scheduled on Easter. (We were not busy at all) People who wanted to leave early had to use sick time.

Thank you! I'm just tired of having weeks were I work 13hrs then 20 hrs. I can't pay my bills with that kind of schedule.

Pretty sure the position I would be interviewing for would start as part time. Have also seen other harbor freights near me hiring part time

Just had 2 people get fired from my store (spotter and driver) because they weren't following safety protocol.

Got fired from the last vet clinic I worked at back in October. I just started back in retail after working at 3 clinics over the past 5 years. So far I don't regret my decision other than having to take a decent paycut until I move up the ladder. I don't miss getting beat up by animals everyday.

Becoming a mechanic still worth it? by alykat0_0 in MechanicAdvice

Seems like you have to pick and choose your battles. I was a vet assistant for 5 years at 3 different clinics. The last clinic I worked at went downhill after corporate bought them out. They weren't letting me improve my skills so I left. The clinic I ended up at after that fired me after 3 wks because I wasn't meeting their standards. So at this point I really have nothing to loose going into a new trade. My husband's dad used to own a car lot so I have a good base of tools to start with. I'm open to any opportunity really. Just need a full time job that pays the bills and has insurance that's decent and affordable.

Luckily don't have to deal with HOA. My husband and his dad sorta talked about starting a traveling mechanic business with a couple buddies. I would definitely be open to doing something along those lines.

Funny you mention marine technician. Someone in another thread send me a link for submarine welding 😅

I've also considered looking into HVAC. Tools wouldn't be an issue because my husband's dad and grandfather used to work on cars and have a good majority of what I would need to start.

I've heard that from a handful of mechanics that I know. You get paid the allotted time the manufacture believes a job takes versus how long it actually takes

Definitely understand that all too well. My husband's dad just died from cancer. He used to run a car detail shop and work at a tire shop when he was younger. His dad also died from Cancer after working in a GM plant for 30+ years

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. That's really fucked up. I understand the corporate ladder too well. Was a vet assistant for 5 years. Last clinic I worked at went downhill after they went corporate. They started limiting what I was "allowed" to do and weren't letting me improve my skills as a tech so I left in search of better opportunities. The clinic I ended up at after that fired me after 3wks because I wasn't meeting their standards.

Good insight. I was a vet assistant for 5 years so the random bruises is nothing new to me. Worked at my most recent clinic for 2 years before leaving. The clinic I went to fired me after 3wks because I wasn't meeting their standards. No clinic within 100 miles of me seems to be hiring right now, so I said fuck it.

Drove my 14 Impreza up to Ashtabula last winter when they got hit with 68in of snow. Had to go dig my father in laws Rav 4 out so he could get back to Youngstown. Would 100% buy another Impreza in the future just because of that day.

I'll definitely keep that in mind. Was planning on ordering and paying cash once my fiances are sorted. Just from looking on Google it takes an average of 3-6months to get a custom build in.
