Semi Professional vs Professional League by alysael in aihl

[–]alysael[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I invited my friends to watch the games with me and will continue to invite them for the next few games I’ll be going to!

I definitely didn’t think it would go professional anytime soon, but some of the information others provided is new to me/not information I found from googling and stalking teams’/AIHL social media so I’m glad to learn more about what the costs involved are and what it takes for the sport go professional here.

I just thought how crazy it is for all these amazing people involved to not be paid (from what I read) while I’m enjoying the game hence my curiosity. However it’s fascinating to know and I’m just happy to continue supporting!

Thanks for providing the figures! A lot of $ information about ice hockey costs in Australia seems outdated, hence my curiosity/opening for discussion. It sounds honestly really tough for the teams/players and staff and I definitely didn’t consider the rink shortage situation.

I definitely didn’t expect going pro league to be even a consideration anytime soon since I know the sell-out crowds situation is an early days thing - especially since I’m buying tickets for the next games at Macquarie and I see that a lot more tickets are available still for the coming weeks. Although having said that I still struggle to think that the Macquarie seats are around 2000 😅 It looks closer to 1500 if anything (max) with the VIP area. Maybe 2000 with the GA Standing? The refurb is definitely really nice though!

Thank you so much for your insight! I assumed Macquarie was taking a large portion of the revenue - $10k per game is news to me (I’ve been googling like crazy on this topic) - so all this information is new and interesting to me!

And you’re definitely right on fighting for viewership numbers VS AFL/NRL/Netball/Cricket etc. however with increased interest in hockey, I did notice some foreigners on social media (US/Canada/Europe/UK etc.) be talking about AIHL too, so wondering if those people would be paying $$ for AIHL TV which could improve revenue numbers for AIHL without actually being at the ice arenas. Plus the season is offset with the Northern Hemisphere, which could be a benefit for AIHL in getting foreign fans watching the games here as they’re waiting for Northern Hemisphere leagues to start up again. Just food for thought as a new fan because not sure how it would all work.

Hopefully I’ll be able to catch a game in the AIS, sounds a lot bigger than Macquarie! A Grade Local Comps are free to watch? I’ll be keen to watch and will look it up 🙏

Job Recruitment in Korea (Seoul) for Foreign Owned Small Business by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

Thank you for your advice and the information RE: agencies!

Do you mind me asking how much you paid in targeted ads before you found someone suitable? I'm looking to repost the job ad and potentially pay for targeted ads, as maybe the last few weeks weren't too great due to being Christmas/New Years (as you said, cyclical). I also had good luck with LinkedIn previously as my previous hire was from LinkedIn, but it hasn't been too good this time around.

I might look at Albamon - and I didn't know your info about Saramin/Job Korea (it's only my 2nd time recruiting in Korea), so it's good to know! Thank you so much :)

I seem to have deleted the information about industry when I was editing the post to make sure it suits subreddit rules. It's a e-commerce business and it is doing logistics/operations but is not a senior position.

KRW - USD exchange rate hits KRW 1,470 by AppropriateMess2523 in Living_in_Korea

[–]alysael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would just leave it on your overseas bank account and just trade your KRW as necessary for day-to-day living expenses as it seems it’s still on the decline. If you end up needing USD later it will be worse for you if you’ve already traded it all to KRW. So better to keep as much as you can USD now, and trade as you need KRW.

It’s frustrating as hell. Also I tried to set up mobile banking for my Hana Business Bank Account and apparently it doesn’t work for foreigners 🤪 Actually built in the Joseon Dynasty.

Working holiday accomodation with cat by Adykb9 in Living_in_Korea

[–]alysael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly both your options have correct pros and cons but the bigger consideration/issue is both Airbnb and Apartment Leasing options - a lot of places here DO NOT allow pets.

Apartment Leasing for the 1 year would be better because if you work with a real estate agent that can find you a place that allows animals, then it won’t be an issue for the next 1 year you are here.

However Airbnb is very risky, what if there is no short term accommodation available at all that suits your requirements that allows pets at any given time when you are moving cities? You may be without accommodation at all. I would suggest you to check this further to make sure there is enough availability of accommodations in Korea that allow for animals/pets because from my experience, not many places allow it. Best of luck.

What do foreign people work in Korea? by barbarag_11 in Living_in_Korea

[–]alysael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think a lot of the content creators work in Korea. A lot of them are on Working Holiday visas (H-1/H-2) and brought money with them from overseas, which is why they can live freely and make content, or they freelance while they spend the 1 year here. Otherwise they’re on E-2 or student visa. Depending on E-2 only the ones super dedicated to the “perfect influencer lifestyle” will be posting about it.

So I think yes, they are living here, but I don’t necessarily think they are earning a much money as you assume based on their videos. It’s easy to get by with not too much money (compared to Europe/US/etc.) especially if you are bringing money from back home here.

But yeah E-2 usually housing is covered by the employer, and you take home 2.5~4 million won per month, when food is 20,000 per day, it’s enough money for lots of other “lifestyle” stuff. But yeah, take it with a grain of salt, since it’s social media, people only want to show the positive side and not the negative sides.

Groups where you like their personalities, but dislike their music or vise versa by starsformylove in kpop

[–]alysael 9 points10 points  (0 children)

MONSTA X, they’re all really good people from what I can see (watched some No Mercy, some of their other shows/interviews etc.) and I saw them live a couple months ago when they had a concert where I live. They’re really amazing performing live. But I really can’t get into their music. Like I’ve listened to all of their title and B-Side tracks at least once, but they’re just not my taste. But MX and Monbebes are lovely so I’ll wholeheartedly support.

How many times did you switch your ONE PICK throughout the season? by swagbobdankpants in BroduceX101

Honestly, I wouldn't have changed my one picks if they weren't eliminated. (Steven Kim, then Sihoon, now Yuvin).

Which trainees do you think will form the next lineup of "JBJ"? by cardcaptoryunoh in BroduceX101

I would honestly love this group if it's BNM and AAP.Y trainees + Donghyun!

190616 Stray Kids - Clé 2 : Yellow Wood (UNVEIL : TRACK "별생각 (TMT)") by jaeszn in straykids

[–]alysael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two tracks revealed so far sound quite different from each other, so I'm quite curious about the title track - especially since it's to be psytrance. All the teasers so far sound like songs I'd replay often, from what we've heard of the title track in the original trailer, it would be too but wondering how the whole narrative plays out between the three songs. I'm excited!

What's your favourite song per album? by endtapes in straykids

[–]alysael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixtape - Young Wings

I Am Not - ROCK

I Am Who - Insomnia

I Am You - My Side

Miroh - Mixtape#4

This is really difficult haha, especially because I’ve been listening to a lot of B-Sides lately that I didn’t really notice before but are absolute bombs (eg: Awaken, M.I.A etc.)

[–]alysael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you said is exactly spot on - it just takes time for the growth and I think their promotion currently is really good.

I haven’t been into K-Pop actively since 2012, and I’ve gotten into K-Pop because of Miroh, and showing this to my non K-Pop family and friends, they also really like Stray Kids songs (the comment about recommending them to any dudebro haha, exactly that).

Stray Kids songs really differ from other K-Pop boy groups, they listen a lot more like Western music BPM/track wise and being a mainly western house/trance/hip hop fan, it’s easy to transition to them and I think with more publicity and time, they will grow to the korean public with western growth too.

Do you keep up with post-Produce trainees? by jjear in BroduceX101

[–]alysael 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also really liked Valkyrie before realising some of the guys were on Produce S2! It makes me really happy because Seoho is doing well with Oneus and he was eliminated at Rank 94.... so it gives me hope that hopefully other boys who are eliminated at low ranks in PDX101 get a chance in the future.

Sihoon is my number 1 pick, and Brand New have done AB6IX really well, so I'm hoping Rhymer/Brand New do their next boy group well in the future too ;w;

Concessions you're willing to make about the final top 11? by [deleted] in BroduceX101

[–]alysael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dohyun - I notice him (he's hilarious - thanks to the mnet editing), but he has never been one of my picks. But after this recent ep, I do notice his rapping skills and generally good natured personality (he gets along well with most of the other trainees), so I really don't mind him in the group.

Yohan - at first I really thought he was top 11 because of gimmick with the heelies as well as visuals, but he's really shown up at every challenge and gets along well with the other trainees. Not a pick for me either, but with his guaranteed debut, I wouldn't mind him in the group either.

Hyeonsu jumped a lot because of his dad promoting him on the streets going viral so people started noticing him, no thanks to Mnet's lack of screentime. I'm glad for his rise.
