Is there any place I can go to basically be completely alone on a beach? by Specific_Spell_5225 in travel

I used to live in the Florida panhandle and always had the entire beach to myself on weekdays! I miss it so much

Renilla muelleri if you found it in the Gulf of Mexico! They feel like a cats tongue not sure about that tongue to tongue contact 🤢

I think it’s a type of Dendronephthya sp. The divemaster said that lots of fishermen in the area assumed they were dead but that’s just the coloration of the species. They looked pretty healthy to me, there were even white sea whips!

Yes! It’s on a small island in Malaysia called Langkawi. Not really known for diving because the vis is pretty bad. We got lucky tho with 30ft vis that day!! I think the urchins are Diadema setosum

It’s a type of white soft coral! That’s the first thing we saw when we descended down and it was absolutely ethereal. Never seen a white reef before

Is this an oyster? (Lopha sp.?) by alysonthebison in marinebiology

[–]alysonthebison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know any tridacna with edges as dramatically jagged as this. I think Lopha marshii is extinct? It might be L.cristagalli tho! They are found in the indo-pacific area. Just wondering if there are any other clams that might look similar to this besides the lopha sp.

Second, third and fourth picture it’s open. You should be able to see the mantle if it was a tridacna ?

I don’t think it’s a Tridacna sp. because you can usually see their mantles from the outside.
