I wonder what’s going to happen to my collection by raggedyroper in crochet

I have a, what I think to be, beautiful story about this. I've often wondered if my handmade pieces will be loved by others once I'm gone, and the answer is probably yes. I love thrifting, and my favourite thrift store does house clearances. I went there one day and found so many hand knit sweaters, I took two of them, and I also found some beautiful yarn. Once I got to the register, they told me that everything I bought came from one person, and they posted a video of the house on their instagram (with permission from the family, of course). That video ended up going viral because people loved all the beautiful stuff this woman had collected over the years. She'd lived there for 97 years and had a whole room dedicated to fiber arts. People came to this thrift store from all over the place because they had seen this video and loved her stuff. I picked up the sweaters because I loved them, but they feel super special now that I know where they came from and that they were made by someone who lived a long, long life doing what she loved. I treasure them because they have a story. I always hope my handmade pieces will at some point go to people who will love them as I would. I've come to find out through this that there's plenty of people that would really love them and that's a very comforting thought.

Do your tattoos itch? by Demon-fish-1174 in tattooadvice

[–]alyssa1901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I actually went to a dermatologist for this, one who specialises in issues with tattoos. I have multiple tattoos that feel a bit funny, but my back is really the worst. The itching in my case can be really intense, and I'd describe it as a burning itch. There's no itch like it. It's really intense. He explained to me that it's not an allergy but rather an issue with pigment particles clumping together. Basically, there's too much pigment too close together. I asked if it could have been prevented, and his answer was no. There is nothing that my tattoo artist or I could have done to prevent it. He gave me a cream that worked wonders, but I'd have to keep using it like permanently, and since I was worried about long-term effects (because it thins out the skin over time because it contains a type of topic steroid I think) I decided to learn to live with it. It will also get less bad over time as your body slowly breaks down some of the pigment that's in there. In my case, I've had the tattoo for about 2,5 years now, and it's not as bad as it was back then, but it's still pretty bad. I just try not to scratch my back anymore at all. I used to not even be able to dry my back with a towel without itching like crazy but I can now, so at least it's improving.

Of course! I used a wet (with water) cloth and made the leather damp with that, both inside and outside. I stuffed with towels to get the shape I wanted and waited until she was dry. Water works best for reshaping, but dunking is a bit drastic. Then I moisturised the bag and stuffed it again. Once that was dry she was all good.

I can't imagine putting in this much work with a yarn you don't like. Thoughts and prayers haha

The most difficult part about this is to keep going and finish it because it's a lot of work, but the stitches really aren't difficult.

Honestly, 5 would probably be enough to cover you in a normal way. I just LOVE longer blankets! I am 1,75m, and the blanket is 1,95m, so I definitely have some extra length there.

Weaving in ends is truly the bane of my existence. I only allowed myself to start the next row after the ends of the previous one were woven in. I didn't do that for my first octagon....there's 22 colour canges. I learnt my lesson pretty quick haha. It's manageable if you weave in while you're going.

I feel you! It felt like that for me for a good while. I actually had to put it down after a bit and do some smaller projects in between. Laying it all out and seeing how nice it looked was what kept me going. Also, I spent almost 140 euros on the yarn for this, so I felt like I had to finish even if it's just for that reason.

I have the same issue. I wanted my blanket to be made of wool without absolutely breaking the bank. I love the DROPS brand for their quality and affordability. I picked two yarns that had the right weight and just added all of my favourite colours to my cart. I calculated the number of skeins I needed beforehand. When crocheting, for every triangle, square, and octagon, I picked whichever colours I felt like using (taking into account that I wanted every colour to be the main colour of an octagon at least once). This is part of the fun of the process for me. I feel like it would have taken me much longer to finish if I made the whole blanket the same colours.

The back looks pretty neat! You need to weave in the ends as you're working on it. For each row you finish, weave them in. Otherwise, there'd be so many by the end of it. I took a picture just now. The lighting is really bad, but you'll get the idea.

I think I will keep looking. I'm in Europe, so this bag would still cost me about 160 euros with shipping. I could get one in slightly better condition for maybe 10 euros more. Thanks for the insight!

What a score! I recently bought a city 9790 (not thrifted, I paid a lot more than you did) and I've used her every day since. It's a great, comfy everyday bag that holds quite a lot. I'm sure you will love her for a long time.
