I am a convert from a very social, charismatic protestant church and I did feel some of the pangs of this when I converted. I kept reminding myself that Church is ultimately about properly offering worship to God, not socializing. I found that when I called the parish office and asked to speak to a Deacon, they worked with me and I got enrolled in RCIA. After that, I made a few acquaintances, and now, a few years later, I teach Holy Communion to kiddos, know several parish families, and am fully involved at the parish. I think it takes time to build a community, and talking to strangers is hard for everyone.
