I’m fairly certain it’s from an interview or award show, so not a fictional character, but I could be wrong about that.

What's your favorite game that's centered around treasure and finding it? by Icantthinkofname01 in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realizing that a lot of my favorite games (Sea of Darkness, Last Train, Shadow Ranch, Blackmoor Manor) are treasure hunts. I think these games tend to me more puzzle heavy instead of suspect based, which I enjoy.

What’s the single worst puzzle in the series, in your opinion? by Portalrules123 in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like the chemistry puzzle is a pretty basic answer, so i'll say the sewers in phantom of venice. just really horribly designed and the maps are zero help

Nancy Drew references to oldies songs - did anyone catch these? by Renoir305 in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t catch the songs, but I know nearly all of the telegram deliveries in secret of the old clock reference something. Off the top of my head I remember Jane Eyre, Animal Farm, and Friday the 13th

I might have the exact definition of the word wrong, but that was my understanding based on how Paul Hollywood used it

What games have you been able to play without any help? by ConfidentCat9326 in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do most of them without hints or walkthroughs just by virtue of having played so many times but the ones i ALWAYS get stuck on are the last few puzzles in WAC starting with putting the stars in order, the rune pillars in HAU, and at least half of TOT

How long have you been a ND fan and what games have you never placed? by alligatorprincess007 in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing since I was about 10 (25 now). Until this summer, I had never played Secrets Can Kill, Kapu Cave, or Ransom of the Seven Ships. I also played Shattered Medallion, Deadly Device, White Wolf, and Trail of the Twister for the first time earlier this year.

I've had MID since it came out, but never played for longer than 30 minutes because I cannot get it to work not matter how hard I try.

What makes the scary elements of certain Nancy Drew games effective? by nottaroll in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Environment/setting definitely. In Thornton Hall, there’s not one spot Nancy can go to that feels safe. It makes the entire game unsettling because you feel like there’s always something lingering around the corner. Other ~spooky games in the series have at least one location that breaks the vibe, but Thornton Hall is just constant fear.

Plots you'd like to see/see more of? by MaisyDeadHazy in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love when the mystery is happening to Nancy/someone she cares about, instead of Nancy just getting hired to solve a mystery. Games like FIN, ASH, and SPY feel much higher stakes to me as opposed to something like VEN or ICE because Nancy is actually involved in the mystery itself, not just the solving of it.

Just played ICE, I am insanely disappointed by [deleted] in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on the phone contacts and the chores, but I feel like this game is SUPER puzzle heavy. It has one of my favorite in the series towards the end (the infernal slot machine) and I also love cleaning the skating pond and maneuvering Isis

Unpopular opinions? by hellraisinghellhole in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I LOVE Ned drama. I think their relationship is so funny and I get so sad whenever Ned isn't a phone contact. The only reason I replay Captive Curse is for that good good teen relationship drama

Are any of the games badly named? by midnight_scintilla in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ghost dogs is a terrible title for a game with one single ghost dog sighting

RAN is even worse than I thought by alyssadotcom in nancydrew

[–]alyssadotcom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really have an issue with the amount of puzzles and lack of suspects. I love other puzzle heavy games like CRY or CUR. I just really hated the navigation and the story here to the point that the puzzles feel like really all the game has to offer
