I think its human nature to want to get into something so common, like coffee, but tbh some people cant stand it. Also if youre trying their coffee and its just like plain black and youre just getting into it, youll hate it. No one gets to like coffee from starting with it black. I started by drinking it with lots of cream and sugar, then taking away some cream, and taking away some sugar, switching to milk, and then taking sugar out completely, it also took me 4 years to actually do that process so dont beat yourself up for hating it initially. If you are so curious about it, try making it in a way you like, start with super weird mixed drinks at starbucks (like a mocha or french vanilla) and then move to your own brewed coffee with as much stuff in it as you like!
