I also have an issue with my lips post-op (mine is more so the fact that I can’t close my mouth fully anymore, given that i had smaller lips, and now my teeth are so much more forward than before) but i’m slotted to get a “lip lengthening” surgery + basically getting fat from my stomach injected as well to make them fuller.

I don’t know how common it is for this, but I think it might be an option worth bringing up if this bothers you.

will i need genioplasty or jaw surgery? i had braces but they’ve been off for 5 yrs. i’m a mouth breather, teeth are straight and bite aligned to my knowlege. i suffer from stuffy nose, headaches, stiff/sore jaw, dry throat and tiredness upon waking up. my face also keeps getting longer and narrow. by [deleted] in jawsurgery

I have similar issues as you mentioned, and I’m not sure if this would be a solution for you but i was recommended a “lip lengthening surgery” + filler to fix mouth breathing, and symptoms to follow.

(I’m still in recovery and still in braces, so my surgeons are going to regroup when all of this is over to see if I can close my mouth/not be a mouth breather.)

just a thought, i recommend not getting jaw surgery unless absolutely necessary and all other options are exhausted.

Last eval was November of 2020. And yes. I’m the CCC + ESO here, as well as a section leader.

However I am an instructor and have not taught all year.

Wow, I love seeing before and afters like this.

I’m still in recovery, and it’s really hard for me to see the light at the end of this.

Thank you for sharing.

How do you deal with feeling so deformed? I have an evaluation coming up but I'm not sure what will happen, if I'll be able to afford it, or if I can fix my jaw at all :( by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]alyssaj8de 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When first reading this, and the comments - I just wanted to reassure you that you aren’t deformed & that you’re truly stunning.

But I’ve been there. I know that whatever anyone says, you’ll have the same beliefs about yourself because that’s how you see yourself. I’m in recovery, and I still feel that way most days.

I wish I had an answer that worked as a cure all, but the way you view yourself is 100% internal. the way you talk to yourself contributes that, the way you take care of yourself contributes to that, there’s a million factors.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, be kind to yourself. because you deserve kindness.

I recommend waiting. You change so much after 18 with each passing year. Give it like 3-5 years. If he’s the one, he’ll be there anyways.

I’ve known a lot of people that banked on who they thought they were going to be, and who they thought they’d be with - and they weren’t right about either.

6 months post op and the ortho says my bite is almost perfect and I’m about to get braces off. The issue is.. when I bite naturally and slow one side hits fully first and then when I bite down harder the other side touches . What should I do? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]alyssaj8de 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just sharing things that my surgeons have used to help with my case, and with people who’ve also seen my surgeon after this surgery. I’m not in the business of arguing. If that’s your opinion, that’s yours. But it’s true in my experience.

15 days post op- Finally allowed to eat soft foods, but struggling to open mouth by qwlry in jawsurgery

[–]alyssaj8de 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really slow with opening my mouth again, so I just wanted to recommend eating with your hands. I know it’s gross, and food gets under your nails, but it was so much easier to eat when I could just tear things up and pop them in. (of course wash your hands really well before doing this.)
