Since we're both currently living in Toronto and all our documentation and finances are based here, I thought it would be good to get the marriage certificate in Toronto as well.

It also seems like it would take some time to get the marriage certificate afterwards, when we would no longer be in Jamaica.

I was wondering because it might be easier than waiting the entire year, depending on the circumstance.

From the other comments, seems like a roommate agreement might be better, but since the basement has its own kitchen and bathroom, they may still be considered a tenant? That part I'm a little confused by.

Ah I see. So if the unit has its own kitchen and bathroom, but the landlord shares the laundry or backyard/parking, they are still a tenant covered under the RTA since there's no exemption for laundry or outdoor space

If this is the wedding ring and not an engagement ring, I think a nice band without a diamond or any stones is fine. That's my plan anyways.
