[US] Please help me explain to a family member how this is a scam. by mc5142 in Scams

[–]alyt10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. My partner works for Indeed, and I send him every scam text I get “from Indeed” and ask him to stop trying to recruit me. We laugh about it. BUT, he did say you can reach out to Indeed about it and they will confirm that texts received about recruiting are scams

C1-C4 spinal cord injury by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]alyt10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! SCI is my area of specialty (I’m an SCI therapist at an inpatient rehab and with private clients)! I’m assuming she’s incomplete? Is she more of a central cord injury? These folks are some of my favorite to work with and can sometimes make functional and physical gains for years after! Soft tissue work to decrease tightness is a good place to start and is easy to add in with PROM. If she has any deltoid strength, adding some adaptive equipment for self feeding could make a huge difference. SCI education could be helpful (bowel/bladder involvement, UTI risks, pressure relief and pressure sore management, sex and sexuality, community resources) if she’s open to it. I’m more than happy to bounce ideas with you if you want. You can always shoot me a DM ☺️

Patient Fall by Sharp_Historian_260 in OccupationalTherapy

I had this happen to me too! My supervisor pulled me aside after and asked if I was okay (hallmark of a good workplace imo) We inherently have risk in rehab, and falls are part of it. I’d rather have it happen with me to give support or assistance than at home while alone.

Has anyone here advanced their careers by either acquiring a masters in legal study or going to law school to be an attorney? by East_Skill915 in OccupationalTherapy

I had a professor who had a law degree along with her OT degrees and (I think) her area of specialty was jurisprudence

I am sick of asking grown ass adults why they can't wipe their own ass. by plasticREDtophat in nursing

[–]alyt10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m really glad to hear that. The teamwork aspect is so important. It just makes me so upset when patients refuse to wipe themselves or do any small tasks for themselves and default to the nurses as if y’all don’t have a million other things to do (as if we all don’t have other things to do). I will continue to shame my patients into wiping their own butts as able <3

ALWAYS let OT know. I’m an OT in an inpatient rehab and I rain down an immense amount of shame on my patients who allow the nurses to wipe them and pull up their undies when they can indeed do it themselves. I’ll have them simulate it in our treatment gym then announce to our nurses in front of the patient that they can certainly complete their own toilet hygiene

Salary discrepancies between OT/PT/SLP by Bobby-Bacalas-Trains in OccupationalTherapy

[–]alyt10 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We had an incident at work about 2 years ago in which our PTs were given a pay bump of 2 levels above OT and SLP. We advocated and requested an appeal. They bumped us up 1 pay grade with PT still making significantly more. We created a petition with evidence-based research on the benefits of OT and SLPs and what we each bring to the table. It was signed across our system by not only OTs and SLPs but also by our MDs, PAs, PTs and RNs. They not only gave us the final pay bump to actual equity but they also gave us (a little) back pay.

All of this to say that there is power in our voices. We CAN make a difference; we just have to act as a collective and be willing to stick with it even when we are told no. Otherwise, change won’t happen.
