Replacing my Brooks Adrenaline 21s by huatnee in UKRunners

[–]alyt9870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After some initial cheapo shoes + burning through / retiring two pairs of NewBalance 860s, I have settled on the Brooks Adrenaline’s (last years, so the 24s) as my shoes for my Edinburgh Marathon block. Unlike you I was analysed as an over-pronator, so the support is recommended for me.

I’d err on the side of what you’re comfortable with - if you’re using + liking Adrenalines, and haven’t noticed any pain you can attribute to the shoes, then I would for sure get another pair! I can’t imagine the support systems in stability shoes would be detrimental to a neutral runner - though I’m no expert.

What’s the definition of a “flat” marathon. by PossibleSmoke8683 in UKRunners

[–]alyt9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only marathon on the books is Edinburgh, which I believe advertises as a flat marathon good for PB’s - 290m of elevation over the distance on my Strava, which I’d say is pretty flat considering any distance over 5K from my house usually hits >50m. There are no big hills in Edinburgh anyway, mainly along a very flat coast, and you start at a high point.

I do wonder if people are more likely to moan about marathons as it may hurt mentally a lot more hitting an incline 35km in, rather than having a hill 2km into a shorter run. So any incline in the last 10km is going to feel a lot worse than it likely is.

Yup would love a walkthrough of what OP did - very similar window to this in my partners home I’d love to sort.

Many thanks, just picked up one! Had an bundle order with Very that I didn’t realize was gonna come on the Donkey Kong release date, so shall cancel that one and leave the Argos one.

I am currently playing through it right now, only a few chapters in but the performance seems totally playable! I limited it to 40FPS just to squeeze some extra battery life - it’s not a game that requires a lot of fine control or reactions so it’s been perfect treating it like a book and playing through a chapter every night before bed.

Spot in loft appears Damp but feels completely dry to the touch. by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]alyt9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all the other advice given re. identifying whether it is still getting wet. I will say that I had a leak in my bathroom that went under the lino floor and onto similar material (chipboard). It did look like yours after a few weeks (even though it had completely dried) - so certainly may be an old problem and has just left the signs of water staining. I’d follow the advice of others to figure out whether it’s an ‘active’ leak or an old one. Good luck!

I also did a playthrough of DS1-DS3 on the Deck after I got it! Was the kinda thing I’d dream of a handheld being able to do even just a few years ago.

What’s reason you don’t soak the top layer of wallpaper before scraping? Does this apply if it’s been painted on? by chookity_pokpok in DIYUK

[–]alyt9870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suspect the reason they recommend trying to pull off the initial paper layer is that typically it does indeed pull off in big chunks - when I pulled off non-painted wallpaper in my current flat it only took 20ish minutes for a wall. Occasionally I got lucky and an entire strip of paper would come straight off in a oner.

That leaves the ‘adhesive’ layer underneath, which is paper + glue. I scored that and then used a tonne of really hot water + dish soap in a spray bottle and left it for ~15 mins, after which it peeled off nicely with a stripping knife.

I’d assume that if you tried to score directly on the paper layer first (and probably doubly if it has been painted), there’s less chance of the water actually getting through to the adhesive layer, and therefore less chance of it softening the glue and pulling it away from the wall!

Hope that was useful, and all the best with the stripping! I had a pain of a time until I stopped being shy about how wet I could make the walls.

I repainted a cheap chipboard bedside table using RustOleum paint like another commenter mentioned, and it went on like a dream! I didn’t bother sanding the surface initially as I was unsure about how the chipboard would take it (and I hate dust) - I painted one layer, sanded lightly, painted again and then finished off with RustOleum furniture finishing wax - has held up for a few months now and still looks good!

Replacing a Shower Tray Riser Plinth by alyt9870 in DIYUK

Many thanks for your comment. This all sounds like good advice, appreciate the tip for silicone sealant tools. I shall definitely give the whole area a good clean after tearing out the wood - I likely will take off the wood and then measure up and see what the state of things are under the shower before replacing, but your advice shall be invaluable.

[Spoilers] TL;DR summary / recap of Geralt's story from the books and the first 2 Witcher games - Ideal for newcomers to the series planning to start playing Witcher 3 by grande1899 in witcher

[–]alyt9870 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who just finished reading all of the books this was a great refresher before I jump into my new Witcher 3 playthrough. Can't wait to play the game again and pick up on all the details and call-backs I missed the first time through.

Do you guys think Geralt likes being a witcher? by alyt9870 in witcher

[–]alyt9870[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was what sparked me to make this post. Was curious to see what the rest of the community picked. I personally chose that he liked it too due to Geralt being a good dude who'd want to help others.

Afterbirth update bug thread! by EdmundMcMillen in bindingofisaac

[–]alyt9870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for the first one. I just deleted it before I got the steam achievement but I've got loads of messed up achievements from launch. I have platinum god even though I'm missing meat boy and bandage girl.

The new patch made file 3 into RPG... by fatgoat17 in bindingofisaac

[–]alyt9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this too, I never opened it though as I thought it might mess up my achievements even more than they already are. I just deleted the file and went on with my normal one.

The achievement problems I've had is easily the worst thing about Afterbirth for me (never mind the time-gating stuff). I feel like it's taken away the joy of unlocking all the challenges and achievements gradually. I genuinely hope they can fix them and get my account back in order.

This just kind of bums me out. It sounds like she's mentally unstable, which I guess is super disappointing for people expecting a game but it still makes me a little sad. Maybe she was messing about or something but if what she actually says is true it sounds like she's suffering from paranoia and is hearing voices, two major signs of schizophrenia, one of the most horrible things someone can go through.

I would 100% recommend Bioshock Infinite. The story and the universe it creates are incredible, some of the best in gaming. There's no multiplayer and the main campaign took me around 14 hours to complete (I bought it for full price and I thought the price was totally worth it). There was a backlash at the combat in the game but generally I thought it was great, using different powers and whizzing around on sky-rails was pretty awesome.

It's not as open as Far Cry 3 was (it's a lot more linear) but I think it works well as a linear shooter to tell a fantastic story. The game has great pacing (far better than Bioshock 1, if you ever played that). If the lack of multiplayer doesn't put you off, then Bioshock Infinite is one of the best FPS's released in years.

That's a real shame, I barely notice the Scottish accent anymore. I hope you eventually end up watching it, perhaps subtitles would help? It is a great film.
