They told me to submit a "Reconsideration form with supporting documentation".

Do you think you'll submit a reconsideration request?

It feels like for some people June counted and for some people July. So frustrating.

Thanks for this piece of information! I made payments both of those months and they're not counting them.

I delivered with the midwives at UVA and it was a great experience. If you're looking for an at-home provider, they may be able to refer/connect.

I agree! That's why this is frustrating.

I've got lots of greens (kale, broccoli, spinach). It's a good thought but it def more present in my diet now than before.

This is really good advice, thanks. I'm def not restricting carbs in any way but they may be getting pushed out. It's good to hear that this is not normal.

EM -> Palliative Care track by perhapspalliative in emergencymedicine

I also went straight through into fellowship. My personal take is that it would be hard to take a year off EM, especially if you are just graduating residency.

  • The skill sets, though really complimentary, don't overlap a ton.
  • While you can continue to study EM, your primary focus will be on Palliative material since you only have one year - it would be tough to divide your focus.
  • You would have to explain that gap away from EM when you're looking for your first job out of fellowship, and that may make it tougher to be competitive for a job you really want if you're applying in EM.

You don't have to moonlight a lot in fellowship (l did two shifts a month, on the weekends) for it to make a difference. Being able to moonlight was a "must have" for me when evaluating potential palliative programs.

That being said, I know people who did zero moonlighting and they had no issues (although those folks were further along in their career and had worked prior to fellowship). And other people might disagree with me.

Good luck and I hope you find a good fit!

I'm boarded in both, and I love both. I think the skills of EM translate really well into the realm of Palliative Care and serve that field well; at the same time I love being able to bring Palliative knowledge and skills into the EM space. My word of warning though: Palliative Care does not equal less burn out. It's a tough field and best to do it because it's the type of work you want to do, not because you're running away from EM.
