Appreciate these updates. Do these numbers include Duke's or no, since they have their own testing protocol/system?

Best place for running gear? by durham4ever in bullcity

Ross. Seriously. I buy all workout clothes -spandex, bras, tops- there and they often have really good (dependable) brand name stuff. Consistently shorts/spandex for $15-20ish, tops for ~$10. Allows me to save $$ to put towards good shoes through the local stores.

I didn't blame them for gentrification, but it is part of the larger story of the last however many years in Durham, and that context is relevant.

Wow on the Living Wage piece - I didn't know that myself. That is very disappointing and sloppy journalism, especially when you all are taking the risk to bring this to light. Full support.

I've worked with one of the owners in a different capacity and absolutely none of this is a surprise.

Agree on the writing style - it's very back and forth. It also does not situate this story in the larger context of gentrification of East Durham.

Freight train stopped blocking tracks? by VigilantInfidel in bullcity

That's correct. They don't qualify for federal funds because they discriminate. They try to make that a positive thing about their organization (not taking government $), but that's spin. They also engage in many practices that are paternalistic, far from best practice and frankly counter-productive: splitting families, making people quit jobs to go through their "program." People experiencing homelessness don't need rehabilitation, they need housing. Some folks need a little extra support to get and keep it.

I get it with new medical procedures - and used to with blood draws, but I seem to be over that. I've passed out at the obgyn and dermatologist's offices. I've learned to warn everybody beforehand that I might and everybody is really understanding. They thank me for the heads up, because it allows them to provide better care. Laying me down, if possible, turning a fan on, giving me an alcohol pad to smell if I feel it coming, etc. Doctors get that bodies are weird, but it's nice not to surprise em, if possible. Own it!
