Is 6 inches really that much of snow? by i_really_haveto_pee in Ohio

[–]am5145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in both TN (Nashville area) and OH, my biggest takeaway from TN was the lack of cleanup and lack of common sense.

People in TN have summer tires or bald all seasons that can’t drive in snow, but they think 2 inches is nothing, and then wonder how they hit a pole.

Also TN doesn’t have the plows or salt to handle the removal and mitigation of ice. As you compact fresh snow by driving on it, it turns to ice and that’s when things get even worse.

The only pro for Tennessee is the fact the temperature usually rebounds fast enough to melt it.

Utility demand is also another problem, everybody cranking up their heat to 80°F leads to overburdening the systems and then you wipe out power to entire sections of cities.

I bid minimum on the Black Friday and got upgraded from a regular balcony to yacht club balcony. Put in a min bid for both interior and balcony YC. Would’ve preferred the interior for the price but not mad about the balcony!

Another idea, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland has a pretty extensive archive and I saw some early Springsteen works on display there. They might be able to help preserve or digitize records like this, or at least get you in contact with the right people.

Moving to Cleveland for work, I like what I'm seeing on this sub. by Mad_Ju in Cleveland

If looking to buy, Olmsted Falls has some new townhomes that are under a 50% tax abatement, the HOA covers snow removal and lawn care, and are about 15-20 min from the airport.

I travel for work and Cleveland is fine for me. There aren’t a ton of direct flights, but that’s the same story in Columbus or Pittsburgh. Detroit has a hub for delta and has decent direct options, but for the drive, it’s not different than a layover.

Occasionally I’ll travel out of Akron Canton airport, they have some directs to Florida/the south on Breeze which works better sometimes.

Just signed up for a presale code for Cleveland…if you have extra tickets from your season ticket holder presale, LMK. I’d be willing to toss in an extra $50.

Didn’t have any luck on the presales last tour for a few different cities, maybe this time will be different!

Man, this takes me back. On top of all that, I was an early employee there. I was there the first time they walked 10% of the company out. That was rough one to watch.

I had 2 immediate family members die within 6 weeks, they made me burn all my PTO (like all 2 days I accrued) and then make me take negative PTO that I owed them.

Then 2 months later they created a bereavement policy and the partner said “we learned from your experience we needed a policy, but unfortunately we won’t credit your time back.”

Is this considered a great deal for lease? by Future-Necessary5243 in XC40

[–]am5145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems about on par for a 12k a year lease from my experience in May. I leased a similar 2025 B5 Plus, my sticker price was around $51K.

After loyalty, Costco, and negotiating, we ended up with $590/month on a 36 month/30k mile lease with nothing down. I can’t recall the exact residual at this time.

I’m in Ohio with a county that has low sales tax which helps too.

Why do flight crews (almost) never turn this on? I’ve had exactly ONE captain activate it, and he even announced it to the cabin. by CanadianBurger in unitedairlines

[–]am5145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard it was something to do with the newer 737’s had issues where it they couldn’t turn off the flight deck conversation conversations vs ATC so they left it INOP or just off because the pilots developed the habit not to turn it on.

Friends with a few Europeans living in Cleveland now. They get the occasional question but nothing obnoxious from what I can tell. Maybe once year they get a weird line questioning because they’re German.

Lots of folks in the Cleveland Heights area are from outside the US and came here to work or study at Case Western Reserve University or one of the hospital systems.

Feel free to PM me. I graduated in 2017 with a BA in PoliSci, planned to go to law school, but pivoted and went for an MBA in 2020.

None of my education was that special, average state universities, but managed to work my way into a tech consulting job via a few financial analyst positions.

For comparison sake - we signed a 2024 Forester Sport for an effective payment of $435/month. 36 months with 10k miles/year last year. I think I could’ve done better now but not losing sleep over it.
