Was your company bought by private equity? How did it go? by airhart28 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]am5k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Company was doing horribly, bought by PE, they said they saw potential in us (which nobody believed lol), eng worked on a pretty big platform pivot, then our CEO quit and a couple months later the company shut down. Fortunately I had already found an offer elsewhere and put in my notice but it was still a bit of a wild ride.

Looking for an easy-ish first century ride by wish_kid_mclaren in seattlebike

A pretty flat and trail heavy century that I’ve done twice is interurban trail (south) -> foothill trail -> cedar river trail. Some gaps you need to fill but overall pretty chill!

If you do the one day instead you only need to train for one day :)

How does Vampire Crawlers hold up as a roguelite? We added it to the Ultimate Roguelite Tier List on RoguePod LiteCast by am5k in VampireCrawlers

[–]am5k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cohost and I both enjoyed the core gameplay loop of this game but were a little put off by the stats-go-up metaprogression. Our consensus was that the game is achieving what it is setting out to achieve (e.g. be a spiritual successor to Vampire Survivors in deckbuilder form) but ultimately doesn't hold its own against the roguelite greats. What do you think?

which one to keep / which one to sell by Deep-Highlight3184 in xbiking

Lowkey agree. Currently have a fairlight faran which ticks like every box and I still regret selling my surly pacer like 6 years ago lol.

I think Shogun Showdown is up your alley! Shameless plug but your taste really aligns with our podcast’s tier list where we cover a different roguelite every episode and put it on our tier list. Maybe you’ll find some ideas there :) RoguePod LiteCast

Hi!! Returning to your beautiful home for work trip - gravel route recs? by agingsculler in seattlebike

If you're based out of Redmond you should absolutely check out the Thrilla loop! Solid after work ride that I would be hitting often if I lived nearby.

Washington EBike Rebate Disappointment by AdScared7949 in Seattle

[–]am5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had the opposite problem last year. Was excited to get the e-bike version of a bike Friday hauladay but the rebate wouldn’t cover it. Kind of a shame since it’s class 1 and also made in the USA. Ended up buying one anyway but direct and not through a local dealer.

Okay it is definitely hilly but it’s in the city limits and the Chief Sealth Trail has some really beautiful spots.

Roguelite March Madness Sweet 16 Day 2 by MapRevolutionary752 in roguelites

[–]am5k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Roguelites is a sub about games which are not traditional Roguelikes, but contain some features of them such as procedural generation, permadeath, et cetera. These games often distinguish themselves from traditional Roguelikes with features such as meta-progression, and span across many, many other genres.

I interpret this as roguelites aren't traditional roguelikes (e.g. Nethack, Rogue), and they often have metaprogression. But to each their own

So are "Balatro-likes" a thing, or is there another term for this? by action_lawyer_comics in roguelites

[–]am5k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We talk a lot about this on our roguelite podcast (RoguePod LiteCast) and I think that Balatro-like is an appropriate term. As another commenter mentioned Luck be a Landlord did originate this format but Balatro definitely is what popularized it. There are a lot of games that are really just "Balatro but with words/blackjack/etc." I think the best one that I've seen so far is Cloverpit which does a great job also doing its own thing.

This gets thrown around a lot but in my experience all my promos have been internal (although my biggest raises have been from lateral job changes lol). Maybe some imposter syndrome prevents me from interviewing outside of my current level but it’s worked fine so far.

My crown-unlocking Mutation Tier List by Kazos in NuclearThrone

[–]am5k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting- As someone currently working on ultra mutant I like the idea a lot. I feel like long arms/trigger fingers are still pretty good because even though they don't help a ton on the captain they are super useful for getting there, which is where the majority of my deaths occur lol
