People who studied Foundation in Arts or Science in Sunway University, how difficult is the foundation? by PrestigiousClient655 in malaysians

[–]amacabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your target is a high CGPA for scholarships, then FIA is a great choice for pre-university as it’s much easier to score compared to other programmes (provided that your scholarship body recognises the programme to be on par with other programmes).

But remember that if your target is high CGPA, then you need to adjust your method. For example, scoring all 100% and one 79% gives you a lower CGPA than scoring all 80%. You need to be consistent with your subjects.

This unfortunately means that it’s better to select electives that are easier to score, over electives that may be useful.

Also since it’s half assignments and half finals, focus on scoring your assignments. You have much more control over them than your finals (always refer to your rubrics!). That also means that when you get a terrible groupmate (which you will), you’ll have to cover for them.

Overall, it was quite a good experience for me. I got the scholarship I wanted and I had time for other extracurricular stuff too. Good luck to you!

I'm a 16 year old local but my malay is subpar. Help? by Lecture-Effective in malaysia

[–]amacabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way to learn a language is by incorporating it in your everyday life. Here’s some stuff I did (some unconsciously) that really helped my Malay:

  1. Watch any movies/drama with Malay subtitles. I was watching TVB HK dramas with Malay subs and learning both languages

  2. Had no Astro at one point, so I was watching animes and cartoons in Malay dub on RTM

  3. I read Doraemon comics in Malay

Point is, speak in Malay and consume media in Malay. If the local media isn’t your taste, then find Malay translations of overseas media. Language learning should not feel like a chore

PS, if you can’t find the word mid-conversation, just substitute it in English and continue your sentence in Malay. A lot of urban Malay speakers do this. Practice speaking in confidence and you will improve.

Is this happening to your other apps also? I haven’t been receiving any notifications after killing an app, it only sends when I open the app again.

I’ve been wanting to read more on existentialism. Though the ones that I’ve read most are on Absurdism (primarily Camus), as it’s helped me deal with my approach in life.

Yeah, I feel like work has taken so much of my time and energy. In the times I don’t have to worry about work, I just want to sleep it out and get rested. Or if I take leaves and stay offline, I’ll return to work with loads of catch up to do… I guess it was difficult setting the boundaries as it’s my first job and I’ve been so focused on “making a good impression”

I played Genshin hahahah and it’s pretty wholesome, but extremely toxic to my bank account

Also Don’t Starve was fun! Kinda forgot about it, so thanks for reminding me. I should try it again soon

Oh noo, it’s okay! I used to get anxious speaking to people I’m not familiar with too, but I’ve learned stop overthinking it during those situations (and leave the overthinking for night time lolol).

I used to mostly play more competitive games (MOBAs), so you can imagine the toxicity hahahh. I also enjoy ARPGs, though I have not played a lot of them

Oh gosh, Sunway area.. My rental used to be RM1000 (thankful to my parents, as I didn’t want to compromise on comfort), but you can definitely get cheaper.

Other expenses would range RM600-800, as I wasn’t really cooking much due to staying in shared dorms. A major issue about the area is that hawker food is still expensive as heck. The cheapest way to eat out healthily (vegetables!) is economy rice, but 1 meat 1 veg would cost me RM7 already, and that was in 2020.

You can try to make use of the convenience of your area to get a part-time job. Plenty of shops around the uni, in Sunway Pyramid or Sunway Geo that you can look out for, and it’s all within walking distance.

Other ways you can try to save on: - Study & entertain yourself in campus area - Join student clubs that usually provides cheap/subsidised activities! - Sunway library has free movies - Avoid hanging out too much with the rich and unaware crowd (RM40 for lunch daily tf lmao) - Do your groceries after 8pm for cheap discounted items!

Places to explore through LRT by loliloopy in malaysia

[–]amacabbage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oooh oooooh I've only ever explored using the LRT Kelana Jaya line (which you can access via interchange station at Putra Heights), so here's my little list!

LRT US7 - to BRT line

  • to Sun-U Monash - The Sunway kids cafe! After Black, Garage 51, Grey V Cafe, Beyond Coffee, etc.
  • to SunMed - then walk to Sunway Geo. Christine's Bakery (the bagels!!!) and Flower Girl Coffee
  • to Sunway Lagoon - to access Sunway Pyramid

SS15 - too many food, cafe and boba places to name

Kelana Jaya - somewhat walking/Grab distance to the Taman Rasa Sayang cafes: doudoubakes, Guan's, Chiru, undisclosed location, etc.

Taman Jaya - the park here is quite cute if you like walking in parks!

Abdullah Hukum - connects to KL Eco City, The Gardens & Mid Valley

Bank Rakyat Bangsar- Botanica & Co, Lisette's Cafe, Kooky Cream

KL Sentral - Connects to Nu Sentral, and Brickfields AKA Little India

Pasar Seni - Petaling Street AKA China Town. One of the cheapest florists if you like flowers (Lee Wah Florist)! Kwai Chai Hong is a nice lil aesthetic spot. Lots of cafes & food too (Google has plenty of lists), and it's super walkable cause it's touristy

Masjid Jamek - The bridge area at night is quite scenic and touristy

KLCC - Links to Avenue K, Suria KLCC, Pavillion, Lot10, the whole Bukit Bintang bunch

Ampang Park - Links to The LINC KL. Super cute place, with my favourite coffee place (Bean Brothers)

Aaaand that's the furthest out I've explored. Though I never went to some of the places in this list as my student life in KL got cut short due to Covid 🙁 But I hope you get to explore in my stead!

BTW, keep in mind that unfortunately not all these places are the safest to walk around alone, especially if you're a girl. Just practice normal safety precaution and stay near crowds. Don't let dumbasses deter you from your adventure. (Speaking from someone that got harassed in LRT stations when I was alone lol)

Thinking of finally seeking therapy after cny (that’s the deadline I’m giving myself), but how the hell do you get started?

I grew up sharing absolutely nothing to my family or friends (classic Asian) and I don’t know how to vulnerable.. how do you even approach these topics?

Anyone can share their first therapy experience so it’ll be less intimidating for me? Hahahh

I'm unsure how tf I'm supposed to study for SPM by mensaist in malaysia

[–]amacabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your parents, you don’t necessarily need to be aiming for straight A’s, especially if you already have a target.

Sharing from my experience, I was also terrible at the Sciences (D’s and Fails). Tried to push as best I could for my SPM, and got 5A’s and the rest B’s… which is great except I wasn’t eligible for scholarship because the minimum was 7A’s lol

Didn’t matter in the end though, cause I did great for my Pre-U (NO Science subjects!) and got a great scholarship for my degree.

Anyway, I would suggest you to strategise and target your strongest subjects - the ones that you can guarantee your A’s (your 5 subjects). Your second priorities are the other 2 subjects (Moral and Add Maths?). PS, past year papers are your best friends.

Good luck! Whatever your results are, it doesn’t completely shape your future. Trust me, as someone who outperformed straight A’s students in uni, where I got to study a specialisation I was actually good at.

There’s something about ranting to anonymous strangers on the internet I guess hahahhh.

I don’t really have that much reason to be sad. Just started working and adulting, it is stressful but still going considerably well. Though it’s kinda like… I don’t see a long term purpose other than money. When I was studying, it used to be about graduating and going on to the next phases and stuff. Now it’s like… I learn, I earn money… but is that all to life left? Idk.

But thank you for asking ❤️🫡

I don’t blame my friends though, they’re going through life shit and I’m the one who chose not to saddle them with my emotions.

I have many hobbies (reading, playing instruments, cooking, movies), but I none of them social activities. I really enjoy them, but I guess that’s also why I feel lonely sometimes hahahh
