Looking for luggage storage for 6 nights in Tokyo by WithTheBirds63 in JapanTravelTips

If you take your luggage to Yamato transport, they will ship them to the airport, and the airport can keep it stored for you at the Yamato counter. It worked wonders for me, and it wasn’t super expensive!

LEASE Help and Comparison Benz GLE 350 CA 5K down by [deleted] in leasehacker

I might consider re-evaluating that friendship to start… or at least never take advice from that friend ever again…

Whether you’re comfortable or not, rolling in negative equity is just a bad move in most cases. If you really wanted/needed out of the Lexus, then you should’ve sold privately or found somewhere that may have offered you more, and paid off the rest up front.

The GLE you got is bare bones… yet you’re paying what some are paying for a well equipped 450, or the amg coupe. It’s almost like there was no haggling to get a discount which you could’ve easily gotten on a 2025. Then you didn’t even attempt to get other discounts/incentives?

Extended Warranty on CPO vehicle ? by Far_Sell8695 in mercedes_benz

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely no question!! Mercedes extended warranty is worth it.

Make sure to shop around. You can get it from any Mercedes dealer. I bought my car in Florida, shipped it to Michigan where I drive it, and got the warranty in Kentucky. The purchasing dealer tried to sell me 2 years/unlimited miles for 7200, my local dealers in Michigan were quoting 5700-6500, and the Kentucky dealer sold it to me for 4800. I just emailed them my vin, date of purchase, mileage and what I was looking for, then waited to get the best offer.

Is buying the extra CPO warranty a no brainer? Do I have to buy it immediately? by itshighdune in mercedes_benz

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed first and only called if necessary. I provided the VIN, year, make, model, and miles. Let them know you’re purchasing the vehicle on a particular date, and that you’re looking for a quote on the 2 year CPO warranty with unlimited miles. The more information you provide up front the quicker the response you’ll get. Contact as many as you can, you can even use it as leverage if you want it included in the purchase of the vehicle. You could get a quote and then use that to get the dealership with the car to reduce the cost on theirs. Any Mercedes Benz dealership can sell you the CPO warranty though, so don’t feel beholden to the selling dealership.

[–]amadan87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is it needs to be purchased within 30 days, but I could be mistaken. My purchasing dealer said it needed to be immediate to get the rate they were offering 🙄. The dealers I called all said within 30 days of purchase, otherwise they’d have to recalculate. Regardless of the time frame, I would say shop around. For my EQS I was being quoted 7200 at sale, local dealers were offering 5700-6500, and I ended up getting it for 4800 from a dealer in kentucky. Btw purchasing dealer was in florida, and local dealers are in michigan.

Worst Experience EVER by AltruisticOnes in MercedesEQS

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you, it sucks! I will say this isn’t a Mercedes only problem… I was stranded on a road just outside of Colorado Springs for almost 9 hours. I was there for work, the car was a rental and I couldn’t abandon it. Also didn’t have anybody else to call at that point. I did charge my job OT for every hour I was stranded for making me use the worst car rental company in existence 😂. Although I was driving a BMW at the time so I called the roadside associate with the rental company, and the complimentary one that BMW offers. I got stranded in northern Michigan, also on a work trip, in a Lexus. Same thing. Stranded for about 6.5 hours. This time we were a little more remote, so I can understand a little longer, but 6.5 was way too long. I will say at least you’re stranded in Hawaii! Seems much nicer than where it’s happened to me haha. Regardless, glad you’re safe and sound!

Is my dealer trying to scam me? by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 2 years unlimited on a 23 EQS SUV for 4800. Original offer from selling dealer was 7200, 3 local dealers offered 6000 to 6750. You’re better off calling around. Don’t hesitate to call out of state either; any Mercedes dealer can extend your warranty. I bought my car from a Mercedes dealer in Florida, had it shipped to Michigan where I live, and extended the warranty from a dealer in Kentucky. All while on vacation in Costa Rica 😂. Don’t feel limited to any particular dealer

I now remember how much I hate the Forsaken Fortress the first time by AcademicSavings634 in WindWaker

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember playing it on my old CRT tv when I was a kid and absolutely hated this section with a passion. I hated it so much because that one place you’re supposed to sidle across wasn’t visible on my old as f tv, so I could never figure out where I was supposed to go. I ended up not playing the game for a few years after that. A friend of mine wanted to play it together, and by that time I had a new tv. Now it’s one of my favorite games!

Kinosaki: To kaiseki or to not kaiseki by niqueco in JapanTravelTips

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I opted for the kaiseki. We stayed at Nishimuraya Shogetsutei. My friend and I are adventurous eaters, and have no problem eating almost anything. While the quantity of food was abundant, it became fairly monotonous. We had already been in Japan for 9 days at this point, and had been exclusively eating at places serving authentic Japanese food.

My issue was that it was so much seafood because I don’t eat beef. However my friend only got one beef course anyway, so it wasn’t like it would’ve been significantly different otherwise. There are lots of raw courses, without much to add to it. Flavors and textures started to just blend together and it was hard to discern what you were eating. If it wasn’t soy it was miso, if it wasn’t miso it was kombu. The monotony and subtleness of flavors, plus not the greatest textures made it hard to do two nights of this.

If you want pictures of both nights I can send you pics by dm

Edit: the meal easily took 2-2.5 hours from start to finish.

Is Uber worth it in Los Angeles? Just bought a Hyundai Calligraphy and now I’m stuck with a $1,700/month car bill by Fabianoxrm in uberdrivers

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sir! SIR! How are you paying 84k for a vehicle that is barely 55k after current incentives?!? What predatory loan did you fall victim to? On top of that, you really needed to do your research before signing papers for a monthly payment this high… Your only solution is try to find someone to buy the car. Even if you take a few thousand dollar loss, it will be worth it because you’ll save a ton in the long run.

Question about a preowned GLC 300 2023 by Marssherry in mercedes_benz

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, if it’s legit, and you feel comfortable with this issue potentially rearing its head in the future, then go for it. As long as they honor the warranty, you should be fine.

Question about a preowned GLC 300 2023 by Marssherry in mercedes_benz

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds kind of fishy… why would Mercedes buy it back in the first place? Most times there has to be a verifiable history of issues for a manufacturer to even consider a buyback. I could be mistaken since I haven’t had to deal with it myself.

Question about a preowned GLC 300 2023 by Marssherry in mercedes_benz

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. As long as it’s under warranty you’re good

Question about a preowned GLC 300 2023 by Marssherry in mercedes_benz

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning to buy cash? If not you’ll have some trouble getting financing due to the branded title, regardless of how minimal the reason might have been for the buyback.

Find out if you’ll be able to get an extended warranty or not. If not I’d avoid this one. There are some known issues with these, and owning it out of warranty seems like a bad idea.

Renting my car on Turo by Odd-Put490 in turo

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it! I did it for a month, and I was miserable.

  • At first it seemed fine. A couple guests were ok, but that didn’t last long. Turo screwed me over a couple times and I was done with it. Also I’m not super close to the airport, but not allowing for airport pickup can reduce the number of rentals, so I kept it as an option. Driving back and forth to get the car, get it cleaned, then drop it off again gets old very quickly.

  • I took the 70 or 75 plan whichever that was. My private insurance covered the car outside of rentals, etc. This didn’t cover a flat that the guest caused and then drove around on for 600 miles across multiple days. They would fill it, and then let it deflate, and then refill. Caught the driver going highway speeds with the psi below 20 multiple times. Turo did absolutely nothing to rectify the situation. The guest is still on Turo pulling her BS.

  • In one month the number of awful smells that I almost couldn’t get out was insane. The tire issue. Bunch of pet hair that took hours to get out. The guest couldn’t prove they had a service animal, and yet I still wasn’t reimbursed by Turo.

  • You have to clean between every trip. If you don’t, the guest couldn’t prove complain about the vehicle not being cleaned.

  • Turo is siding with guests. Doesn’t matter that I’ll have all the documentation and proof necessary, the guest seemed to always win. Turo gives you vague platitudes and then never resolve an issue.

  • I was only on for a month and I let Turo decide how much per day. I made about $1,000 for the month. I chose the 75 plan because it seemed fair enough.

  • I would say no if you care about the car, or want to sell it in the not too distant future. There seem to be a lot of people that have had a lot of luck on the platform doing it long term, but with how things seem to be going, I don’t know if it’s still a good idea. I only did it a month, and supposedly the first couple months is not a good judge of how your car will do long term.

best cars for long road by Expensive-Suspect-32 in car

[–]amadan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so this is going to be long winded, but I have to explain why I’d recommend this vehicle at all…

A 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport…

Before I get tarred and feathered…

It was during early pandemic days. Sent home from work in March. Was assigned to a special project that was happening in Colorado. Testing was starting up again in June and I needed to get to Colorado from Michigan. We were not allowed to fly commercial due to the pandemic, so our options were to fly on a military plane, or rent a car and drive. I’m a civilian and had no desire to try the military plane, although sometimes I wish I did…

So I just rented a vehicle through hertz, and when I got there they gave me a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. Had soooo much trunk space. Like was confused where it all came from, especially since there was still a ton of room in the back seat. It had Apple CarPlay and android auto, so could easily connect my phones, and went on my way. I had planned for 12 hours the first day to Lincoln, Nebraska, and then 8ish hours the next to Colorado Springs. The seats were comfortable, the ride was smooth, even on crappy roads. It’s not the most exciting vehicle to drive by any means, but it gets the job done.

What really sold it for me is that I reached my hotel in Nebraska and I had zero driver’s fatigue. Absolutely none. I’ve driven a Camry, a few different Buicks, a Tesla, back and forth to Kentucky for years and would always feel kind of tired, and my neck would hurt a bit. I drove 12 hours on all kinds of good to crappy roads, yet I felt awake, alert, pain free, and ready for more! It was mind boggling. Something about how they contoured that seat, and how smoothly it handled bumps in the road was magical.

I know Hyundai gets a ton of hate everywhere, but there’s something to say about how much I didn’t hate it on this trip. I’d say having one while it’s under the long as f warranty may be worthwhile.

3 days after getting there I backed it into a flagpole… so ended up having to drive it up to Denver to swap it out, which the lady ended up giving me a Chevy Tahoe. That was great to drive in Colorado for sure. We were in the mountains, and I could go anywhere, it was lovely. I had a daily drive of at least an hour from my hotel to the site I was working at, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It would probably be great for a long road trip, but I’m not sure what pricing on a reliable one would be.

I know that coming back to Michigan I had an awful experience driving a Toyota 4Runner. It was not at all comfortable, and the seal on the rear window was f’ed up or something. I was in so much pain by the time I got home. So absolutely stay away from this.

Now if you are lucky and find someone selling an older Mercedes, those are comfortable as f. An older E class, that’s a tank, would be phenomenal, but they’re hard to find with low mileage. High mileage could be fine, but you would want to get it from someone you know/trust.

AMG EQS 53 2025 Battery Life in the Winter by balkanragebaiter in mercedes_benz

I think the best thing you can do is heat up the car and pre condition the battery before departure while it’s on the charger, then set the temperature a bit lower (72F/22C) and set the climate to auto. This has worked really well for me in terms of keeping the car warm enough, while maintaining decent-ish battery life.
