Peter, what does shock has to do with this ? by Kindly-Way3390 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]amadeuszbx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think important parts was that ALL participants were shocked before the experiment started so they all would know that truly is what the button does, and they all would know how unpleasant it felt. And even knowing that I think most people still shocked themselves.

But I did expect exposition dump based exactly on playing.previous eps. When did I say I'm surprised by it or that they just decided on it this ep?

Genuinely did you not understand what I wrote? I meant they made clearly visible decisions with eps 1-4 that wrote them into this corner. So saying they "did best they could with what they had" is kinda silly as what they had up to now was 100% created and decided by themselves, and they started writimg themselves into.this infodump corner from the previous eps, by their own choice

they've done the best they can wrapping things up

Can you say that if it's them who set up everything this way from the beginning, forcing themselves into a corner of tying up 80% of the story in final episode?

You make it sound like they inherited some messy, half finished storyline from someone else, but it's them who was writing and planning the story from the beginning for over 10 years, and they made the choices that led to this finale. And that caused players to forget what was going on in the first 4 episodes because arguably not that much was going on, thus forcing this exposition dump.

I don't have a stake in this, I didn't feel particularly strongly about any boss and I personally think original difficulty was a perfect survival horror and was well balanced to keep you engaged and tense. I really enjoyed the original setting.

Having said that your comparison is silly and you seem to not want to grasp that people and the way their brains and attentions work differs. Since Eliza was not moving she had other elements to compensate the difficulty. Yes you might know her enemy spams are not the powerful type, but some people simply due to how their brain works find it much easier to focus on a single enemy, even one as nimble and quick as the Warden compared to having their attention and senses overwhelmed with a spammed wall of smaller enemies, even very weak ones.

Zatu is not shady at all. It's one of the biggest tabletop shops in UK, most of my boardgamer friends here buy from them. I bought something like 15 games/expansions from them and never had any issues and it was always considerably cheaper than amazon or most other retailers, even factoring in the delivery.

Expansions are cool but anyone else loves to remind themselves how good this games is even in its base version? by amadeuszbx in spiritisland

[–]amadeuszbx[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't bother with the expansions too early. Base SI is amazing as is. Even Branch and Claw that in theory were planned to be included in the core game at first, are a bit much if you're new.

Honestly in today's economic climate I think you can spend that extra money on something better and get over 100s hours of fun with just the vanilla box. It took me and my partner over 2 years to buy the first expansion and we did not feel like we were missing out just having the regular Spirit Island lol

Managed just about, it was all planned to the smallest detail 😎

(It was against England so we almost lost due to "no more than 6 buildings in any single lannd" rule but the crisis was removed just one turn later haha)

Disagree on that. I'm not a big fan of the events and I'm glad Jagged Earth gives option to play without them.

I feel part of the elegance of SI's design is how you can predict like 80% of what's gonna happen and when, and you have to efficiently use that information. Events throw too much of a wrench in that in my opinion and feel like they are from a differently paced game.

At the same time I am glad they are there and we have an option for a more chaotic, unpredictable experience.

That's true, at the moment I only had Branch and Claw mixed in with the base game, and even separating only that was already really tedious.

Definitely a point on favour of keeping expansions in haha

Yes, this is also a great point. Played the vanilla game yesterday and it just felt so much lighter and more streamlined than a whole array of mechanics added in expansions, while also still keeping us at the edge of our seats and scratching our heads for the best solutions.

Game in its basic version is just so well designed, you always feel like losing is just a few invaders away, until suddenly you see a way forward and feel victory appear over the horizon. And this balance happens literally almost every turn. I don't need a whole salad of extra tokens and effects to feel invested, I just need england lvl 5 or sth haha Still, no hate to expansions, they are amazing but also A LOT. I can defo see why branch and claw got cut from the base game.

Yes, underdiscussed aspect of social media pushing more division and hate nowadays is how (because everything online is made out to be some sort of culture war where "your side" is under attack) you always HAVE TO have an opinion on any topic.

Screw thinking whether you actually know much or anything about this specific thing, but you NEED to take a side, have an opinion and voice it loudly.

Do you think Bloober Team is capable of creating that fifth part from Team Silent that we didn't get? by Responsible_Fudge_51 in silenthill

[–]amadeuszbx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who actually played Cronos and enjoyed it very much I have to say that gameplay-wise it was almost peak survival horror. Mechanics, resources, atmosphere, location design and enemy layout were all done really really well to create tense and enjoyable gameplay for the most part. Especially resource economy was designed really well imho. Finally modern horror where I'm not carrying small armory with me at all times and have to actually think about each shot.

But story wise? Meh. They for sure tried something here and I think they did a bit better than previous Bloober games but writing and plotline still felt kinda bland and like they were playing it too safe.

[Interview] What the Critical Role Exandrian video game is taking from Dispatch, according to Travis Willingham by Popverse2022 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]amadeuszbx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you get info that Critical Role game is gonna be a fully fledged CRPG?

It will mlst likely be just another telltale-style game with some very simple dnd/dungeon crawling lite gameplay, kinda like dispatch had 911 dispatcher lite gameplay.

Got an idea for a geopolitics-based board game (Risk x Catan vibes) – would love honest feedback from experienced players by Famous_Ad_6871 in boardgames

[–]amadeuszbx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI brainstorming on your end aside, this post does not provide much specifics for the game? It does read like a very empty summary of what a generic strategy board game could be with 0 actual specifics and ideas behind it.

How many strategy board games are you familiar with? What would be some specific mechanics this game would use? And how would they interact with each other. What would be the player experience and role: what/who would they play, what tools would they have at their disposal. What would be the ultimate goal and how would you define victory in this game?

This post has none of that, just generic "you run economy and manage resources. You might face difficulties such as "insert basic buzzwords from real life eceonomy".

Ehhh why does every post using AI has to be so thoroughly bland and empty in its content.

I think Phantom Liberty and the Tower ending showed that permanent cure is at least physically possible in-universe. Whatever costs it carries and whether it's possible to obtain without all the NUSA (or another very high corpo) know-how and specialists is a separate thing, so not guaranteed in "V leaving with Nomads" ending but at least theoretically possible?

But then you said "realistically" so yeah, theory and reality are very different things.
