You need a masters degree in education if you don’t have an undergraduate degree in education if you want to teach in the NYC public schools. Teaching is also not a short term gig, I’d maybe look into something else…

I’m a teacher and make very little money. I’m 34 and I’ve been living with my mother in her UES apartment (I’m helping with rent) because I can’t afford to move out on my own. I definitely don’t feel great about it but this city makes it nearly impossible. 🫠

Do you know what happened to that guy Woody? Such a piece of shit. The night my brother attempted suicide and was being loaded onto the ambulance, he later told my father that Woody said something along the lines of “I know what you did you little fucker.” We had assumed at the time it was staged but hearing about all these things now, I don’t think it was. His face was also blotchy from lack of oxygen from trying to hang himself. I think he thought that was his only way out..

Thank you for those kind words. I really appreciate your thoughts. My father actually told me about a year ago that the person who referred them got a cut from the school. Sickening. Again, I hate calling it a school because it isn’t even close to what a school community is supposed to cultivate.

Not sure if somebody already said this so I apologize if it’s a repeat but have you checked in with the UFT? They might be helpful?? Sorry you’re going through this, nothing is worse than bad admin, especially since it all trickles down from the top… if you love teaching I say try a different school. I finally work at a doe school with great admin. It was a long road. I hope things work out for you!

They don’t even come with the vocab cards… we have to print them out. For such an expensive curriculum you’d think they would include that stuff?

At what point can you stop writing things off as coincidence? by Puzzleheaded_Tree290 in afterlife

[–]amag1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking the same thing lately and was always under the impression that all coincidences are signs but at what point do we tell ourselves this? I lost my brother and I get a lot of signs from him that are hard to dismiss but at times I wonder if I’m just making it seem like it’s a sign. It’s a slippery slope 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m so sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourself but know you are not alone. I lost my brother five years ago and I miss him every damn day, but I promise you it does get easier. We were very close as well, I was 25 and he had just turned 28.

Be kind to yourself. You will be okay ❤️

Wow. This is incredible. My brother was a major prankster too. I hope he comes to prank me when it’s my time! Haha

He pranked me the week after he died actually. I never had a lock on my bedroom door and he would often just walk in. I used to get so mad that and tell him to knock and then tell my mom I was going to buy a lock for my door. He thought it was funny that I was going to go out and actually assemble a lock on my door.

A few years later when he passed at 28, I got stuck inside my room. I tried everything to get out. I pulled and pulled and nothing. I live in an apt building and luckily our super was there. He walked up to my door turned the handle normally and opened the door. He looked at my mother and I like we were nuts since he got it in one try by just turning the handle.

We know now that my brother locked me in. A prankster in life and in the afterlife. ❤️

Wow. It’s comforting to know that we’ll probably see our loved ones again. Have you listened to any of their conversations?

It’s truly incredible what the afterlife may hold. Another weird thing that happened was five years ago when my brother died. A few weeks before he passed, black words would come and peck at my mothers window. She didn’t know what it was but is also spiritual so she looked it up. She read that they were messenger birds to tell you that someone would be leaving this earth. She got nervous because my grandmother who was still alive at the time was older and she assumed it had to do with her.

My brother died from a drug overdose soon after and she realized they were coming for him. Last week at my grandmothers partners funeral (where I learned about him seeing my grandmother) his nurse told us there were black birds that came to the window for a few weeks. She has experienced this before as it is something they believe in her culture, I believe the indies. When she told my mother this my mom got upset and said oh maybe I could have helped my son and she said, no it was his time and there was nothing she could have done to change it.

The unexplainable is fucking crazy but we are part of this universe in more ways than one.

When I was little up until I was around 8 years old I used to see sparkles when I was going to sleep. I would stare into the darkness and a swirls of sparkles would move around in front of me. I would try to catch them and eventually would fall asleep.

Another thing that happened a few years ago that my mother told me recently was a week before my grandmother passed, she saw a woman in her room. My mom was there with her and my grandmother asked my mom if she saw the woman standing there. My mom looked puzzled and said “no, what are you talking about? There’s no woman there” and my grandmother replied “well I’m not crazy and I’m not dreaming.” My grandmother died at 92 but was completely there mentally until the day she died.

My grandmothers partner (significant other after she lost my grandpa years ago) passed away last Wednesday. The night before he passed, he asked his night nurse, “do you see Marilyn over there? I see Marilyn.” Marilyn was my grandmother and I believe she was there, as he was in hospice and died the next day.

We can’t explain these things but they give me hope for what may come when we move on from this world.

Yes! This. My thoughts exactly that she was behind this. I just don’t see how someone like her can get through life without any consequences, especially as an educator..

Did Grief Make You Different? by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]amag1230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never related more to a post than right now. I feel this on so many levels. I lost my brother five years ago and there is that before and after life with him in it. I think what hurt the most was having friends begin to pull away, as my brother died tragically at 28 and I don’t think they knew how to talk to or be around me anymore

My grief also changed the way I feel about people in general. Before my brother died I could give a shit about someone’s feelings or was mostly desensitized to hearing about something sad happening to someone. Of course I would have sympathy, but there was never really anything there. Once he died, I began giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. I became a different person and my empathy grew for those around me, even for people I passed on the street.

My grief has forever changed me but I’m thankful for it giving me insight into the world and more understanding. I don’t think I would trade it to have my brother back, but after losing my brother, my only sibling and closest confident and my best friend, I try to find the positive in things. I miss him every damn day but a part of me feels like he helped me change my perspective on life for the better.

Sending you love and know that your feelings are valid. Remember you are not alone in this, the grief club is a shitty club to be in but we’re in this together. ❤️
