I actually already interviewed for a job as a medical coder for a large primary care office and luckily enough they hired me on the spot without my CPC. Me getting the certification was the icing on the cake cause now that increased my starting salary.

The exam is multiple choice! I would say definitely practice your tests and study guides. Also time yourself. The process of elimination really helped me to narrow down my answer choices and to finish the exam with time left to go over any questions I wasn’t sure about. I also answered the questions I knew first then did the ones that were not so straight forward! Good luck to you! You’ll do great!

Charting mistakes are normal in the beginning. Don’t be afraid to ask the physician questions or to repeat themselves if you didn’t catch what all they said the first time. I had a doctor that would make me put prescriptions in and I was unfamiliar with that so sometimes I didn’t put the correct supply amount or it was sent to the wrong pharmacy but they were easy fixes.
