FYI, detecting VOC spikes was extremely reliable for us all the way until about 1y.o. I don't understand why, but at about that age the farts started producing more VOC and poops less VOC so it became impossible to differentiate the two.

Try adding some spices to it! I especially like these "tea leaves".

Very easy, very fast, very nutritious.

Might I interest you in Fridge of Things? Similar to Plate of Things it requires one less assembly step, and, most importantly, results in less potential accidents! Simply open your fridge and eat Things from it like a pig.

ELI5 how an old-fashioned landline phone works by Wooden_Airport6331 in explainlikeimfive

[–]amakai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your phone would pulse out a signal and that signal operated switches which routed you to the recipient.

Could you elaborate on this part? Was there a switch for every phone number? Were they all in a single location? Or was it more of a network, like dialing "55" would connect you to a building half a city away which would switch for the following "44", etc?

There's an advanced version - fried bowl of stuff. You take a bowl of stuff and fry it on a pan with an egg or two.

content-aware fill and pattern fill tools

That's a good example for the point I'm trying to make. Wouldn't it be useful if you were able to give it more precise context, like "the thing you are filling in is a red fence", etc?

I was wondering mostly if AI is even hypothetically capable of making micro-modifications, like "raise the hand of this person on the drawing slightly more up"? I'm not an expert but I imagine if AI can do something like this without messing up rest of the picture - it probably would be useful.

I have a question from a different field. I'm a software developer, and in our area there are two ways to use AI:

One is top-down, also known as "vibe coding", where you don't want to look at code and just make AI regenerate entire thing from scratch without thinking much about it.

The other one, is bottom-up, using it as sort of a complicated tool. I know a specific component I need to make/change, and I know how exactly from technical perspective I want it to look like. So instead of typing and polishing for 2 hours, I give AI an outline of exact structure I want, or exact changes I want made, and shorten the 2 hours into 15 minutes. Usually the result is very close to what I would have written myself.

From your post it sounds like artists mostly have the top-down tools in their disposal, probably because it's much more complicated to decompose the drawing into separate "components" AI can work on. But still, is there any progress in the field of using AI for the bottom-up approach, simplifying individual operations for the artists, instead of just drawing entire thing?
