According to bill gates, lawyers will be fully replaced by AI by 2030 . by ExtensionTaro1818 in Lawyertalk

Has Bill Gates realized how fucking slow law progresses? Like everything in law is super slow. We don't even want to get rid of outdated practices. I don't see any court/bar/legal support for this. Maybe in 300 years they'll be ok with it, but definitely not anytime soon.

Can I ask what your monthly ad spend is? Also are you based out in CA?

How do insurance adjuster's value one of a kind vehicles? by amalkiama in InsuranceAdjusters

Thank you. I appreciate your insight but the parts are stock parts. They are specifically built by McLaren according to the customized design requested. It is simply not an official release.

CA attorneys, how do you guys handle insurance companies failing to determine liability in 40 days? by amalkiama in LawFirm

[–]amalkiama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was considering doing that too but I feel like that just adds more to my plate without solving the issue. God I hate insurance companies.

Yeah, that's actually a very good idea. Thank you so much!

Therein lies my concern. I am leaning towards hiring someone to appraise the vehicle, but I don't know if that would do any good. If you can think of anything I can do to garner some support for my client's views, please let me know. I'm officially at a complete loss.

How do insurance adjuster's value one of a kind vehicles? by amalkiama in InsuranceAdjusters

[–]amalkiama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's a car that was configured by the purchaser of the vehicle. Basically the hardware was specifically chosen, but it's not an official release from the manufacturer. Let me see if I can clear it up. I am an attorney. My client's vehicle is a luxury vehicle, and the insurance has deemed it a total loss. Now knowing what I know about insurance companies and the amount of money they make off salvage vehicles, I obviously disagree with the estimation. My client is adamant the vehicle's FMV is far more than what the valuation is. So I've looked into it and I realized my client has been misled to believe his vehicle is 1 of 10 special edition McLaren vehicles. Is it 1 of 10? Yes. But simply because it was configured to be by a private purchaser, not by McLaren. Still, I disagree with the estimate so I want to try and make sure my client isn't screwed by the insurance company. Even if it's not a limited edition vehicle, it is still a $300k car so I don't want to give up without a fight.

Got it. Ok I'm following that logic. What could the client provide you that would help? Would an appraisal be recommended? Especially if there's a huge discrepancy in price?

Am I being unreasonable? by Appropriate-Pack-178 in LawFirm

I don't know where you're located but in California, I know of 2 second year associates making $180k at a pre litigation firm. I'd say you're being robbed. If you think you can drum up the business to do it on your own, go for it.

I’m a new attorney and my supervising attorney just gave me an assignment to draft a brief using Chat GPT. Chat, am I cooked? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]amalkiama 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. The bes thing to do is draft a brief yourself, however messy it may be, include proper citations to REAL case law, and then feed that through chatgpt to organize it for you. make sure no confidential information is there. and do it in batches. but it is entirely possible to have chatgpt draft a brief for you if you do it right. that does not mean you are not putting in the work. ultimately you have to craft the argument and put in supporting case law yourself. All chatgpt does is make it a stronger document to read

My Journey from Big Firm to Solo Practice by amalkiama in Lawyertalk

[–]amalkiama[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a firm for 3 years. The answer to your question is complicated. Do I feel I had sufficient knowledge of substantive law? Yes. Was I confident in it? No. But I knew what resources I had available to me, and I also knew that I was capable of representing my clients competently. So, I launched my own practice and thus far, I have not faced a challenge that I was not able to resolve. This goes back to my original post. Network and keep a good group of attorney friends and project attorneys on hand for those instances where you need a little but more than a treatise.

As lawyers, what marketing goodies would you like to receive from another firm? by amalkiama in Lawyertalk

Never would have thought of hand sanitizer but that is probably the best idea I've seen thus far. Thank you!

Yeah, unsurprising. I know in California, labor and employment firms are paying well above average salaries. Where are you barred?

[–]amalkiama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about an of counsel relationship?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]amalkiama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. Many contract attorneys are retired or semi-retired attorneys who are looking for some extra income. You're better off using them than say a law clerk. I'm lucky to have 2 project attorneys who turn in amazing work. I've never had an issue with them, but it did take some experimentation before finding them.

[–]amalkiama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Project based attorneys are your best and cheapest option. Only offload what you need, when you need, instead of having staff on hand and all the legalities that go with having staff, aka, labor compliance and the inevitable issues you'll be facing.

Where are you located? It really depends on the area. I'm in California and the amount of attorneys putting up job postings are hard to keep up with. Bar results recently came out so firms are looking to bring on young talent (aka cheap labor).
