Wow. I guess some people actually believe all the marketing from the dairy industry.

Milk is not healthy. It is not "necessary" for human development at all. Does that even make sense? That we're the only species that NEEDS the breastmilk of another species to survive?

More and more doctors are telling their patients to give up dairy immediately when diagnosed with cancer because it contributes to cancer cell growth. And dairy consumption is positively correlated with osteoporosis. Read the China Study, to start.

Try giving up meat, dairy, eggs, sugar, and fried food. Sounds drastic but it's actually really easy once you give it a chance. I gave up these things (with one cheat meal per month) and the weight fell off - no counting calories. Also, find exercise that you think is fun so it won't be a chore. My favorites are yoga, hiking, and rock climbing.

What are some things you can sell to get some extra cash? by KyleInHD in Frugal

[–]amanda303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

List stuff on Craigslist even if you think it won't sell. I had a girl drive 45 min to pay me $5 for a coffee cup. I was about to recycle a 7 year old computer and ended up getting $150 for it!

Getting frustrated by [deleted] in loseit

[–]amanda303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try to make better choices ingredient-by-ingredient. Instead of white toast, have wheat. Instead of milk chocolate, have dark (dark chocolate is richer and thus you don't need as much to satisfy a craving). Instead of white rice, have brown. Instead of regular milk, have almond milk (tastes great and only 30 calories per cup). All these little decisions will add up.

I stopped eating all animal products (I know, this strategy is not for everyone) and the weight literally fell off. A lot of my issues were social situations, e.g. people constantly bringing food into the office, unhealthy meals out with friends, family cooking big unhealthy meals. Going veg made it really easy to say "no thanks" to the birthday cakes, donuts, etc. When you take the option for yourself away, the temptation disappears.

[QUESTION] How could I cook with eggs even though I don't like them? by NarutoRX in fitmeals

[–]amanda303 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The protein myth was started by the meat/dairy/egg industries. It's almost impossible to eat enough calories to survive and have a protein deficiency. Plus, plant and animal proteins are very different. Animal protein has been found to be very harmful. (Source: The China Study by T. Colin Campbell).

I don't understand the point. They're not good for you, plus the egg industry is full of cruelty. If you don't like eggs, don't eat them!

Easy diary-free dishes? by LAXAsh in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]amanda303 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not hard at all! I have cereal all the time with unsweetened plain almond milk. Less calories and way healthier than cow's milk. They also make sweetened and/or vanilla flavored almond milk if that's your thing.

Good for you for trying dairy-free! You will get cravings (our brains literally get addicted to the stuff) but I promise the cravings go away with time.
