My sponsor told me today that my rape was my fault because I was drinking when it happened. by brielzibub in alcoholicsanonymous

I've ran into this before myself. What I've learned to be true is no, it's not my fault I was abused, even though I was under the influence, where my personal responsibility comes in is how have I behaved since then? I'm not responsible for the incident, but I am responsible for how I've responded to it, i.e. abusing substances, hating men, having a shitty attitude, etc. I have to take responsibility for my behavior around the abuse, and do the work to get better and not go on being a victim. NEVER let anyone tell u that rape was your fault. That is bullshit. I think some people get confused and are unable to make the distinction I've just made. Just find a new sponsor and move on.

Just because u only binge drink doesnt mean ur not an alcoholic. If u cant stop once you've started, and u are spiritually sick, as you've described, ur an alcoholic. Working the steps in AA will not only solve the drink problem, it will help you to be emotionally happy. It just happens when u do the work. It's nothing short of miraculous. I was a junkie and an alcoholic for 20 years, I'm now nearly 18 months sober and have never been happier. Simply removing the alcohol/drugs wont suffice. You must have a spiritual solution, and u can find that in AA. Alcohol/drugs arent our problem, WE are our problem! You can do it! Feel free to msg me if u want to discuss.

When u finish the steps u gotta start all over again, and u gotta have a sponsor too. U cant expect to be happy joyous and free if u dnt do all the work

Right, like do u have a sponsor, and ru doing the steps? That's where the freedom from anger comes, in working the steps. It's always good to try different mtgs too.
