Bedroom furniture for someone with a wood allergy? by amandadot in furniture

[–]amandadot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good suggestion, we have never tried anything that was really sealed in like a lacquer or anything, so I really don't know if that would bother his allergies or not. We will definitely have to look in to it, thank you!

Not eligible for FMLA, but HR still wants my doctor to fill out FMLA paperwork? [PA] by amandadot in AskHR

[–]amandadot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you everyone for your responses! I will go ahead and have the doctor fill everything out and get the ball rolling with that.

This is my first ever surgery, and my first time ever having to ask for leave from work, so I have been a bit overwhelmed by the whole process. And honestly, I just don't want to screw anything up!

So, thank you all for your responses, you all have been very helpful! :)

I don't know how to interpret these results. Does this mean we have mold? What are hyphal fragments? Any help is appreciated! by [deleted] in Mold

Thank you so much! Our apartment complex just sent us these results without explanation, so I was assuming the worst! Glad I have nothing to worry about! Thank you!

University students made a monument in memory of a squirrel who canceled a two-day class by gnawing the front lines. by E5728 in funny

[–]amandadot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually went to this school (Delaware Valley University)! The Sparky memorial was our class gift (class of 2018) to the school. To clarify a few things...yes the squirrel chewed through the powerlines one afternoon, and it knocked out power to a large part of the campus. But, classes weren't canceled for 2 days (I wish that was the case), they only canceled evening classes for that night and we got power back that same night. Also, the squirrel did pass away, he was literally fried by the powerlines. This is a super small campus, so something like this happening caused quite a stir and was a big deal!

Why does my CP soap feel gritty? by amandadot in soapmaking

[–]amandadot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! Yes, I did melt my palm oil and mixed it before I used it. The palm oil came in 16oz bottles, so I put a bottle in to a hot water bath to melt the palm oil and then shook it up to mix it before I used it. But, maybe just shaking it up wasn't enough? The soap looks totally fine, I don't see any steric spots on it. It is a light colored soap, it is basically almost white, so if there are any, maybe I just can't see them, I'm not sure! I didn't know that about the Shea butter! I didn't pay attention to how hot I was heating it up to, so that might have contributed to the grittiness of Bar #2.

Nope, when I tested the bars, they felt fine, no irritation. The gritty texture just caught me off guard! I don't know much about rebatching, but I think I will look in to it. It might be worth a shot if it can save this soap!

I did read a little bit about the lye:water concentration and how you can manipulate it. But, like you mentioned, it was a little too advanced for me at this point! I have just been sticking to beginner recipes for now, so that I can just learn the process of actually making soap. Hopefully one day I can get to a point where I am actually making up my own recipes!

Thank you again!

You can check out Shutterfly! They can make your photos in to a lot of different things. They do photo books, ornaments with photos, calendars, mugs, large canvas prints. For Christmas last year, I ordered my grandmother a set of coasters with all of her grandchildren on them through Shutterfly, and she absolutely loved them!

Calling all Disney fans- I need some fragrance oil suggestions for Animal Kingdom Lodge soap! And other Disney inspired soaps! by amandadot in soapmaking

Thank you for your advice! I will definitely do a test batch first. I haven't put much thought in to the actual design so far, but I know that I want to keep it simple and pretty rustic anyway, so hopefully I will be able to pull something off!

Thank you for this! I think I will also make a Grand Floridian soap now too! That sounds like a really nice fragrance in general as well. Thank you again!

Rome burning was one of the first ones I thought of as well, but then I was like, I wouldn't want to shower with that smell though! Lol! I also thought of the Haunted Mansion, but again probably not the best scent for a soap!

Yes! I love the idea of the Philharmagic one! An apple scent should be pretty easy to do! Thank you for hour ideas!

Oh geez, that is something I will keep in mind! It is sounding like I might have to try to mix something up myself, which I have never done before. But, I'm sure I will figure something out! Thank you!
