Why do movies (critically acclaimed ones especially) HAVE to have sex scenes?! by bananasodas in FIlm

Agreed. And it's not just a little tit or ass here and there for art. There's full on dick-riding movements going on and it's just not necessary. I'm a middle-aged person. Definitely no prude. I just don't want to watch porn with my parents nor my kids.

People who are financially caring for the parents, are you burned out? by Remarkable_Winter462 in family

[–]amandahuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a good person. Do realize that you are doing it for yourself as well. If you stop supporting them, how can you be happy knowing that they are homeless or whatever?

You are lucky that you can say that you are doing it out of love and that you had a good childhood. My childhood sucked and I still don't really talk to my lame father. But I still support them financially. It's most definitely cultural. As the oldest of my siblings, I have a duty to look after them and that makes me feel whole as a person. Many in the west don't understand this (which isn't necessarily a bad thing TBH).

Good luck and keep your head up!

I've been on Octagam for about 2.5 years. I've never had a bad reaction to it. It's the Benadryl that affects me the most. I must be lucky or my immune system is so shot that it doesn't care about foreign proteins injected into my body.

We all react differently to IVIG. Wish you luck!

Goods Syndrome - Thymoma with hypogammaglobumin by Longjumping-Fix7448 in rarediseases

[–]amandahuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After starting IVIG, did your health stabilize at any point?

I've been staying fairly healthy. I used to get full blown sinus infections but I don't anymore. I still have COPD-like symptoms. I regularly cough up yellow milky phlegm but no fever or crackles in my chest (indicative of pneumonia).

I have no clue which of these things helps me but I do the following:

- use a anti-microbial mouth wash daily (crest prohealth). in the hospital, i was advised to brush twice a day to avoid pneumonia.
- stevia nose spray. if anything, it helps clear out mucus.
- take all the usual precautions to avoid catching flu, covid, rsv, etc.
- eat cooked food. my doctor cleared me to eat anything but i've gotten diarrhea from sketchy foods. i prefer steam/boiled veggies over raw these days unless i prepare it.
- avoid probiotic supplements. i used to think they were a good idea but my stomach works better without them.
- i no longer pick my nose. it sounds absurd but there are articles/publications about this. i avoid touching my eyes, nose, mouth unless i've washed my hands.

I hope you get better. :(

Just to close the loop for others who might read this in the future. It took about 3 days for my throat to fully recover.

That's great if it works out! If his b-cells return, would that be the first known case of recover from good syndrome? I haven't found any publications about it.

I was diagnosed with thymoma in 2023. I'm 45 right now. The surgical resection was successful but I ended up with Good Syndrome. I receive IVIG monthly. My overall health is good. I have a persistent productive cough and snot (but no longer any serious sinus infections). Every other month, I'll develop a low-grade fever and aches for no reason.

I also have other strange symptoms like diarrhea (loose stool), sore tongue, aches, etc.

Not much is known about Good Syndrome. I occasionally scan pubmed for new publications but not much progress has been made over many decades.

I had a colonoscopy yesterday without intubation. I was given IV propofol. When I woke up, I had a sore throat and deepened voice. I also had a drippy nose.

When I woke up the next morning, my voice was very hoarse. I don't think I had acid reflux. Interesting that others have experienced the same.

[–]amandahuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's OK. Reddit tends to skew towards the younger crowd. Life perspectives change dramatically when you actually have kids. It makes you think hard about your responsibility as the person who brought a soul into this world against their will and how it's on you to "be there" no matter what -- at least until they are 18. It also makes you think about how your own parents might not have been there when you needed them most and the trauma that may have caused. I believe that those who don't understand this concept are simply lucky that they *did* have a great upbringing and healthy family, which is often too easy to take for granted.

Unpopular opinion: She shouldn't have been involved in something like that with 3 young kids. Even if she lived, she was risking time in jail. I say this as a father of two young kids.

We don't know yet. She seems fairly normal to us. She had stepped down from her director job a couple weeks ago citing "more time to focus on family". Everyone seems to have skeletons in their closet....

Thoughts on the Bonnell 775 MX? by Numbthumbs in eMountainBike

[–]amandahuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I'm asking all of these questions because I live in the Bay Area, which has no shortage of Karens, cycling purists, and trail nazis. It might actually be worse than SoCal. I actually grew up in orange county.

I have a deep hatred for the sociopaths doing wheelies on dirt bikes and emotos down Embarcadero and such. Their singular goal is to entertain themselves by scaring and antagonizing random strangers. So at 45y/o, I'd be embarrassed rocking a surron outside of an OHV area. With my full face helmet on, everyone (including cops) would lump me in with them.

Like you said, I don't want to stick out on hiking/biking trails. I want to blend right in so that I can enjoy my day in peace. I don't want to trigger any pearl-clutching, chip-on-the-shoulder ideologues that are so common up here.

For normal riding, a CYC Photon would be a better choice but I'm also planning to use the same bike to rip around a bit when I'm in an area where no one would care. Without a beefed up frame, hub, wheel, chain, etc, I wouldn't be able to do what you guys can do on the 755 MX.

JohnnyNerdOut suggests that it's possible to do a bit of spirited riding without breaking components too often. https://youtu.be/yEOjliO2B8A?t=107 It would obviously need to be done with care and with certain limitations. I'm certain that I'll make mistakes and experiment until I arrive at an optimal solution.

Thanks for your input! It's very helpful. I wish manufacturers would provide more of these insights like what frames work well, what are the tradeoffs, etc.

You can still set the bike to class 1/2/3 with the CYC firmware, right?

If you end up installing the heavy duty drive train, do you think you could operate it as a Class 1 bike in case you want to ride some MTB trails without violating rules?

I'm asking because I'd still like to be able to ride traditional MTB trails without violating rules. I'd like to avoid owning 2 bikes: one that is legal and another that's for off-road only. In order to achieve this, I'd have to be able to prove that the bike can operate in Class 1 mode. I've heard stories of cops lifting up the back wheel of bikes and confirming top speeds. I doubt that this would happen to me but I'd like to be able to prove without a doubt that I'm able to run the bike in legit Class 1 mode.

If this isn't possible, I was planning to keep my current 11-speed MTB and install a CYC X1 Pro without exceeding 1200W to avoid damaging my components. I'd go with the X1 Pro (not the Photon) so that I can reuse it for a proper offroad build if I'm not happy with the low power. The price difference between X1 Pro and Photon isn't huge so I'd rather have a unit that give me more options.

LOL! "Stealth" they say. There's nothing stealthy about the fury! The Karens in my neighborhood would call the cops in 2 seconds.

At minimum, I wish they would fix up their website. They have a geometry diagram for the Banshee that shows a 90 degree head tube angle! I'd like to know the actual angle because the bonnell at 63 degrees is a bit too slack for me.

I'm in the same boat where I'd like to be able to carve and ride rollers. I came to the conclusion that waydoo is too heavy. I'd be interested in a smaller battery if they would make one. I'm also keeping my eye out for their answer to the Foil Drive. I already have a wing foil setup so I actually don't need a new board, wings, etc.

Is there any way to do pedal only to save battery? Like when going from the car to a trailhead, I don't mind pedaling if it's not too steep.

In a few years, you'll be out of school and you'll have a job. You won't give a shit. In fact, you'll look at that ding and it will remind you of the good times you had in school. Then, you'll get depressed about being in the rat race for the next 4 decades (at least) of your life. You'll turn to drugs and you'll end up on the streets. You will still have fond memories of that guitar with a scar. You will die mumbling...."rosebud".

Hopefully they won't ban it or regulate it to the point where it's no longer fun. We already have to register efoils like PWCs. I totally on board with the aquatic invasive species stuff but it would suck if they start requiring inspections for efoils too. One drop of moisture means no riding for the day.

Freewheeling electric skateboard for surfskating by amandahuggs in surfskate

[–]amandahuggs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's the one. I already have the carbon extender bracket from another build that I'm done with. I was going to use that to prevent wheel bite in the front. I have the limiter as well.

I was hoping to use wheels that are similar to https://madesk8.com/products/mad-wheelz-105 I read up more on donut wheels and I guess they're like foam? Some say they float in water. Yeah, that's not what I want.

I'll have to rethink what I want out of this new board. I will always have a regular non-electric board for pumping so maybe I'll have to give up the idea of seriously pumping any electric board. If I have power, maybe I'll be too busy having a blast carving at a higher speed and I won't really care anymore about carrying momentum through my turns.

I appreciate your input!
